Game Night and Scrabble Tournament! One of my best friends and I alternate having game night at our homes. Shawn and I are both Scrabble lovers but not everyone else is, so this time we will have other games as well. I am making ham and swiss sliders and people are bring potluck appetizers. My house is the most clean and organized it has ever been since I moved in.

Any good solutions for how to hide cords that run acroos the top and down the side of my fireplace mantel from a flat screen to DVD player, Roku, outlet etc. etc? It's a mess, and I cannot think of anything but going through the wall and back out again. :(

I don't watch much tv anyway; my addiction is the iPad. I was able to talk the kids into doing this with me, and we had a nice dinner, talked and I did some project planning and read a magazine. The evening seemed to last a long time and I ended up falling asleep on the sofa at 8!

Day 11: Try a Media Fast Apartment Therapy January Cure

My project is my laundry/mudroom/back entry. It was unwelcoming to come home to such an ugly space and the lack of a landing strip created a lot of clutter in the kitchen and den. I had previously cleaned out the area, placed a tabletop from a french desk on top of the washer and dryer, and bought a vintage piano bench to take off shoes and store hats, gloves etc inside it. Last night I worked on the DIY skirt that will go around the washer and dryer and my partner is going to mount on the walls some batik stamps that have been made into hooks for coats, bags etc. Looking for a rug and baskets for each family member.

Can't wait to share the before and after once its done!

I am redoing my laundry room too. It's the family friend entry and is so super ugly I get depressed walking into the house. Already took the top off a French desk to go over the washer and dryer and now need to figure out how to control the clutter from four people and make an easily removable skirt to camouflage the washer and dryer. And maybe a place to sit and remove shoes.

Day 5: Select One Project from Your List to Complete this Month Apartment Therapy January Cure

I sat in the chair in our front entry and mentally took everything out of the space. Funny, I never noticed that the ceiling is actually a pale blue ven though I reprinted the walls when I moved in! I like it.

As I was imagining how to make my front entry more welcoming . . . More color, moving things around, hanging pictures I already have, it struck me that the room I am really unhappy with is the laundry room. It is the real entryway in the place, and we come and go there several times a day. It's also the friends and family entrance. I need to make it more welcoming. It is a wreck all the time, so I am shifting gears to make the laundry room a beautiful place. With the help of my partner, I removed the legs from a French desk and placed the top over the washer and dryer. It is the perfect size. Going to install a curtain below to hide the washer and dryer, hang the chalkboard craft cabinet I already have over the sink, and think about a good bench and storage for everyone's stuff so it can be neat and pretty in there.

I forgot to add that orchids are a great long lasting plant - mine last at least a month, maybe longer. The kitchen island used to always have one. Time to get another!

Day 3: Weekend Chores - Flowers, Floors, Green Cleaners & Outbox Apartment Therapy January Cure

For those of us that are on a budget, a bowl of fresh pears that may be eaten later, or greenery cut from pots or the backyard can be a substitute. Right now there are gorgeous berries on my neighbor's nandina, and she doesn't mind me cutting them.

I love this color. I think the reason you don't like it is because the couch and the walls are about the same value. If one of them were lighter I don't think you would feel the same about the color. If it were me I would change the furniture. How about adding some bright yellow pillows and a bright fun piece of art for the wall over the sofa? You need some bright elements in there.
