First let me say your kitchen is so lovely! We lived with an empty space for a while over our fridge and I actually grew to love the emptiness.....it gave the eye a break. But just recently we placed a small flat screen tv on the top of our fridge. We are huge sports fans and its been fabulous!

I agree with you completely! I'm 43 and now own my third home with my husband. In our area of the USA it was a HUGE mistake to purchase this home. We've been in it since 2007 and the home is worth about $25K - $35K less than what we paid for it. We want to move to another state but we are stuck with this house. We either sale it at a loss - who wants to do that?! Turn it into a rental property - living in another state I'm not sure I want to do this or stay here in this house longer hoping the market will change.

Personally I can't wait to get out from under this house and go back to renting. It's been our experience owning this house that it's just not worth the investment.

I didn't see where she was asking about hiding wine. As for oen shelving I have them and love it. I hit up my local flea market and purchased some old boxex such as soda cratex and wooden wine boxes. They are fabulous for storing the things you mentioned and look great

Congrats on your new home! Good luck.

How sad that this post is found odd by people in Europe and Canada....doesn't that tell Americans how screwed up our healthcare system is?! We seem to be one of the only countries that is so messed up when it comes to healthcare. I would give anything to be able to live in Europe and healthcare is ONLY one of my reasons.

I hope things work out for your healthcare.

I love this loft! And I also love the idea that there are NOT area rugs all over the place. I don't use them much in my home and I love the idea of how easy it is to clean without working around rugs. And I just love the feel of the open space without area rugs. Lovely!

I love the green! And I think you made an AMAZING Difference to this kitchen with very little money. Maybe the floor isn't liked by many here but hey I say just purchase a large solid area rug that will cover most of it and it will look great! Love the white brick as well - don't mind all the harsh comments of dislike. If you like the changes then that is ALL that matters. And I love it!

I have recently renovated my kitchen and put in all open shelving and I absolutely love it. First of all I don't live in CA so no worries on the earthquakes. Dust? It has not been an issue. I use everything on a regular basis and the dust just hasn't been a problem. And yes I have dogs....their hair is not on my dishes. If you are considering open shelving I would suggest that you just do it - TRY. You will never know until you try. Don't listen to all of the negative comments. We are all different and you just may like it. No it's not for everyone but there are MANY of us who love it and wouldn't want cabinet doors again.

Congrats on your new journey as a vegetarian. I have been vegetarian for about eight years now and it's still difficult when invited to dinner whether it's a holiday or not. Like most have said here I always speak with the hostess and we decide on a vegetarian side dish or two tht I can contribute to the dinner. I have found especially in the south where I am currently residing that people have a very harsh and just sometimes rude reaction to your being a vegetarian. I never expect anyone to make concessions for my diet choices especially when they have invited me into their home for a meal. And it's just easier to just ignore the snide and rude, even hateful remarkds of others.

My decision to become a vegetarian are based on my own personal needs for my health and yes my love of animals. If other people can't respect that then they are the one with the problem and not me and just aren't worth the time or effort of a discussion.

Best of luck on your vegetarian Thanksgiving. Just roll with everything as it comes, contribute what you can and everything will be okay.

Why is it necessary to make all the comments about the title "CRAZY Curb appeal? When you make these comments you may intend for them to be towards to author of the article but the reality is that you are really insulting the homeowner.

Beautiful results! Just goes to show how something as simple as paint color can make a HUGE difference.

How very weird of you to post a response to my comments- on a personal matter - when you don't even know me or my child. What has or might have occurred with you in such a situation or anyone else doesn't reflect on myself, my child or our relationship.

Not that I feel I have to explain myself to you or anyone else but for the record if my husband and I chose to surprise our child for the holiday it would be expressed to him in adequate time prior too the event. Meaning that it would be a surprise for him because we've already said that we won't be traveling for the holiday. I have been a mother for well over 23 years and I think I know how to respond to my own child.

And also for the record, sometimes just because you think something, feel something or have an opinion on it DOES NOT mean it should be expressed. Your comment wasn't needed, appreciated and had nothing to do with the original context of this post. So please do think on that before you respond next time especially to someone you do not even know.

My husband and I have been married for 20 years and we have always lived a great distance from both of our families. When our son was at home we ALWAYS made the trips during the holidays to see both sides. Fighting the airport crowds or the horrid holiday traffic on the highways and using all of our own vacation time to so so.

Neither of our families have ever been very supportive or bothered maybe I should say to visit with us for the holidays when we've extended an invitation. We've finally had to stop and say we won't do this anymore. It's just too costly, too stressful and ruins our chance of vacation time throughout the year.

Our son is now 23 and living on his own in another state and will not be able to spend the holidays with us this year. So we will be spending Thanksgiving and Christmas at home just the two of us with our little fur baby. For Thanksgiving, We are really looking forward to cooking together, watching some football, doing some shopping and decorating for Christmas.

We're thinking maybe a trip for Christmas, surprising our son in New York...not sure on that one yet. Life is just too short for one person to carry all of the burden and stress of holiday travel. If family can't compromise and rotate houses or at least agree to meet in the middle somewhere then it's my opinion that you should make it your own holiday...enjoy the special times at your own home.

I'm really surprised at the comments of the produce not being good at the Trader Joes of the individuals who have posted before me. Not that I don't believe you by any means, just that the produce at my Trader Joes has been great so far. Maybe it's because it is a fairly new store? I am in South TX and we don't have a lot of other options here other than Whole Foods and local chains. So I was happy to see a Trader Joe's arrive.

My only complaint with them is that sometimes there isn't an organic option on all items. I'm very much into avoiding GMO's at all costs and purchasing strictly organic products. That has proven to be difficult for me at Trader Joes. But the produce was great for me.

What a fantastic update to your kitchen! It makes me so ill when people scream don't paint over wood....it always depends on the situation. And clearly here it was the right choice. I love wood as well but sometimes it just needs to be painted over.

Your update looks beautiful. ENJOY your new space!
