I made my kids "pocket pals" with my daughter's artwork (http://www.snugglebuguniversity.com/2013/03/pocket-pals.html) . It really wasn't that hard at all to print on fabric with an ink jet printer, especially using the printable fabric sheets that you can get at the craft stores. If the idea of running fabric through your printer scares you, you could always print on transfer paper (available at craft and fabric stores) and then transfer to fabric.

It might be fun to make a tiny version of your animals for kids--wouldn't a child love to have a pocket-sized version of their favorite pet?

I love anything that encourages the use of the almighty cardboard box. What I love about cardboard boxes is that everything is a possibility for the kids. When my daughter wanted a pretend washing machine, she said "I know, I can make it out of cardboard!" She didn't even suggest us buying one.

Same was true for her princess party. She wanted to create a whole Disney princess village. We're talking Belle's village, Sleeping Beauty's castle, etc. etc. We made the whole thing out of cardboard. It was a great project, and I had a blast making it with her.
