This is a great subject for a post - thanks Carrie! Our daughter (almost 3) is fascinated by birds, and watching birds is a great, cheap and easy way to introduce kids to nature. One suggestion, though. You can find binoculars that are small enough for kids at good optics stores and online (I like binoculars.com) that are comparably priced and much better quality than the ones sold as "kids' binoculars." Also, although Haba refers to this as "binoculars", it is actually a monocular. Just be aware of that when searching for other products. Thanks everyone. I don't remember which Naturepedic mattress we purchased. I will look tonight and let you know. As for the dresser, it was an old one that we repainted. It is higher than a normal changing table, but we got used to it quickly -- and I'm not even tall (5' 4"). My husband is 6' 1". I will see exactly how high it is and report back. Thanks to everyone for all your suggestions!! This is so helpful to us. We had looked at the dimensions of the IKEA crib mattress to see whether it was standard before buying the Gulliver, but I'm glad to know (from JudiAU) that it really is standard. And Molly -- good tip re: latex/wool allergies. We're going to check out the naturepedic site. Sounds like a good price for a good product. - Becky and Andrew Chapter 3 Revisited: Becky Andrew Buy a Crib |

As someone who had been to many baby showers and am childless, I found my friends' registries to be invaluable and did not think they were tacky at all. It makes me happy to get something that someone truly can use, and I think it is much harder to do that with a baby shower without a registry than a wedding. Survey: Did You Register? |

These suggestions are great! Thanks so much to everyone. I really like that Target crib, Exxon23 -- and I had not seen it. (Had seen the Walmart crib and like it.) Well, we're heading off to IKEA later this week (didn't make it last weekend). We'll let you know what we decide! As for the Argington crib, I love it but decided a while ago that, in our small room and given how clumsy we are, Andrew and I would pummel our shins constantly on that ledge that sticks out! -- Becky Chapter 3 and a Survey: Becky Andrew Need a Crib |

Thanks monika1 for all your suggestions! We actually have not bought a crib yet . . . . stay tuned for next week's installment on our crib decision. But based on your suggestion, I'm going to trek out to IKEA this weekend and take a look at the crib for myself. They also have a wall-mounted changing table that I thought might work in the built-in unit . . . . Great ideas everyone! Thanks so much! Chapter 2: Becky Andrew's Floorplan |

Thanks everyone for your suggestions! To smallhousebiglife, just FYI, we asked my sister to do us a favor and draw the room so that the nursery readers could visualize the space better than through just the photos. The plans had an added benefit in that my sister was able to see that we could not fit an ottoman and that many standard dressers and cribs were too big. So, we have not had to go through the pain of ordering furniture that would not fit. Chapter 2: Becky Andrew's Floorplan |

I just registered a couple of weeks ago and also found it overwhelming. Two of my friends with young kids volunteered to come with me, though, and they were a huge help. They pointed and I clicked! So my advice is to take someone with you who has had a baby in the recent past. I was able to register in an hour!!! Good Questions: Baby Registry |

Molly - What a great idea. Janie had also suggested something similar. The boards that the TV sits on are a bit hazardous (very sharp corners -- we added them to the unit so that we could get rid of the TV stand in the room), and so we're planning to get rid of them. The unit is not deep enough otherwise, but we're still going to ponder this idea for a while because it would save a lot of space . . . . Chapter 1: Becky Andrew's City Nursery |
