My mother-in-law is definitely in the glitzy, over-the-top package decoration camp, including making massive, poofy bows with wired ribbon. It makes for a very festive look under the tree, so I save every one of the bows she sends us and reuse them with simple kraft paper and saved Christmas cards. It's a nice marriage of minimalism and excess, plus cheap and environmentally neutral to boot.

For those of us who live in firefly-free parts of the world, there are these solar-powered LED cuties that mimic the light and flashing patterns of the real thing: http://www.humbleearthproductions.com/

You could still go with plants and use museum wax to anchor them. The stuff really works. http://www.aftosa.com/museumwax.html

Yowzers. I don't know what the difference was, but when I tried this tonight it was powerfully spicy. My husband couldn't finish more than a couple sips and we both like things hot. I'll try infusing the tequila for only an hour next time.

Rig the fan so it turns on with the light. It will give some auditory cover as well as vent out any noxious odors. :-)

On or near your desk in your office (either at home or at work). That way it's where you will see it every day, but it's in your personal space. I'd suggest only displaying one at a time and rotating through them on occasion. If they're the same size, you can tuck the alternates in the same frame behind the current picture.

Now I'm desperately in love with that bentwood shelving in the first picture (under the pendant lights) and Karkula doesn't sell it! Anyone know where I can find something like that?
