We had wooden stairs with a handrail and all four of us managed to fall down some to all of them in spite of the rail. The only one who was injured enough to require a doctor visit was our daughter. Hand rails aren't the be all end all.

Third the American Leather sleepers. They designed the sofa or chair to have a hollowed out back which provides more storage room for the fold out platform bed. This allows them to fit a standard length mattress. Most sleeper mattresses are about 6" shorter than a normal mattress.

When we moved into our house, the master bedroom was painted for a nursery with seafoam green walls and a blush pink ceiling. I painted the walls a dark graphite grey semi-gloss thinking that I would also paint the ceiling white, but the combination of the wall grey with the pink was so soothing and feminine that I decided to keep the pink ceiling. I haven't tried to coordinate the pink with anything else. It just acts kind of like a neutral.

This furniture is the Hido collection made by Sitcom Furniture. Maybe you can find a dealer from their website.

I've wanted the Ikea PS daybed since the line was debuted several months ago, but $500 is way more than I am willing to pay. It looks really small scale, too.

There is nothing better on a BLT than thick cut bacon, tomatoes from the garden, real mayo, white bread untoasted, and iceberg lettuce.

I made a batch of barracho beans and the finished product was a little flat. My nine year old daughter tried them and said, "Needs lime". After adding the juice of one lime, the beans were not only good, but fantastic. She was so proud of herself and I was very impressed with her sophisticated palate.

I like this store a lot. There is so much to see, and I can take my husband with me. This says a lot for a store's "interesting" factor if it can keep my husbands attention as he is a non-browser.

This is funny to me. First they redesign the grounds with brutalist landscaping to discourage the hordes of homeless who used to spend the day on the grounds, now they are planting a vegetable garden which would seemingly attract the homeless back to the grounds. And as far as harvesting weekly, my experience with Baltimore rats tells me that they are going to have to come up with a better pest control plan than that. Ah, Baltimore, I miss it.

The light cast by a lamp can mask a multitude of ugliness in a bad kitchen. I grew up in an overhead light averse household, so we always had lamps in the kitchen. It can also be useful if you don't have task lighting to illuminate your work space.

I did notice the uneven surface of the wall because paint with any sheen to it will show imperfections, but for some reason, I find the imperfections charming and full of character. As for the switch plates, you can find many choices of material for replacement without having to resort to the tired old standby of chrome anything.

Time after time I read these comments and time and time again I am amazed at how the veil of anonymity emboldens people to harshly criticize honest and sincere effort. There are two commentors above that I see often taking this liberty. Whatever your credentials are, to others on this forum, you may as well be the checker at the local Shop and Save. Unless you are willing to put your name, credentials, portfolios, and published work out to establish yourself as a critic, you just come off as mean. This is not a classroom, a studio, or an architectural journal. It is an informal setting in which to share ideas about design. It's been said before, and I will say it again. If you don't have anything nice to say...

I have a collection of student-y oil paintings that I have picked up from my local Goodwill stores over the years. What draws me to them is not their techical or artistic perfection, but that someone, somewhere, sat down and put on canvas a part of themselves. When they are grouped together they make a fun and interesting composition that really makes me happy.
