I have heard in the past that you were not supposed to use oven cleaning products on a self-clean oven. I believe this is out-dated information. I don't like using the self clean feature because it wastes energy, takes too long, and just seems really dangerous; so, I read all the labels on the chemical sprays (it was dirty, vinegar and baking soda wasn't gonna cut it) and bought one of the regular ones available at Canadian Tire for $8. You spray, close the door, leave it for an hour, then wipe everything down. Works perfectly, cleans effectively, and doesn't light my house on fire, bonus! When Not to Use Self-Clean on Your Oven |

And yes, the survey doesn't seem to be working properly. I couldn't vote, and I suspect it's tallying all the votes under one response.... Everyday vs. Party Time: Should Guests Go Shoe-less? Apartment Therapy Reader Survey |

I love how so many people are baffled by this discussion for totally opposite reasons. Among my friends and family it goes without saying that when you walk in to someone's house for whatever normal/casual occasion, you remove your shoes. If it's a party the shoes stay on, no question and no need to confirm with anyone. I live in Toronto where it is wet and snowy for a lot of the year, I wear my boots and change into heels once I arrive. I certainly would not stay in shoes that were wet or muddy. Yes, shoes are dirty from the sidewalk, but so is everything else, and that's why we clean after parties ;) Everyday vs. Party Time: Should Guests Go Shoe-less? Apartment Therapy Reader Survey |

I love it! I especially like the punch of the nautical stripe on the bench next to the pink curtains. Before & After: A Revamped Guest Room |

It sounds like little things drive you crazy when you have to look at them every day, I can totally relate. I would definitely hang them at the same height as your panels, or maybe an inch or two lower to avoid the issue you have in the other room. I'm actually not sure why you think it would look odd to hang them at the same height, I rather think it looks awkward to hang them at the top of the window.... but that's just me. :) Where To Put Sheers When Hanging Curtains \"High and Wide\"? I agree with B from Stockholm. Painted panelling is beautiful and traditional. I was in a home recently with a living area very similar to this; they had painted all the panelling a nice warm shade of white (contradictory? Maybe, but it felt warm), very cape cod but still super comfortable and inviting. If the brick fireplace looks good with the painted wood then I would leave it, but play it by ear and paint it last. Really great room though, I'd work with what you've got, it could be gorgeous! Should We Paint Paneling & Fireplace? Good Questions |
