Just wanted to comment that if you are sending an assortment of homemade cookies - separate any that have mint! I received a tin of homemake cookies in lieu of Christmas card from friends, but they tasted terrible because the mint had overpowered the non-mint cookies.

I enjoy my simple, battery-operated, single-use alarm clock that beeps annoyingly. (1) That's the only thing that always wakes me up, music tends to just become part of my dream and I oversleep. (2) I worry about losing electricity in the night and a non-battery-operated device losing the juice needed to wake me up in the morning, (3) when my home town finally got 3G, my facebook page was bombarded the following morning with several posts about oversleeping because the phones were picking up the time from the wrong cell tower (in another time zone).

I cannot stand oversleeping. I trained myself off the snooze and feel more alert in the morning (which is saying something because my brain takes a while to start up in the mornings regardless). I need that annoying beeping to get me out of bed and it works for me.

Aluminum foil doesn't work for all cats - I have the same problem as phd2bpolisci with my cat. He was peeing on the dog bed, so we lined it with aluminum foil. He made a point to pee on the aluminum foil while I was in the room - looking straight at me the whole time. I just wipe my countertops and stove down with cleaning wipes before starting to cook.

Does liquid diet include soups thicker than broth? My husband had jaw surgery last year, and I would run potatoe soup through the blender for him. He was only on liquids for a day, then he couldn't chew food for several weeks...and at the time it was hard enough getting him to take all his medicine! Good luck!

Luckily, I am usually ready to sleep before my husband so my reading doesn't bother him. Also, I'm usually able to fall asleep when he's watching tv or playing his PSP. On the odd nights I'm unable to sleep with the noise/light, he quits for the night. Has anyone's sleep partner tried sleep masks to block out the light?

Tallsarah, I'm with you! Reading can keep me up all night if the book's good!

In our first apartment, we moved after a 1 year lease because we wanted a nicer place closer to where my husband works. We moved after a 1 year lease from our second apartment to an identical apartment within the same apartment complex so my husband could have satelite tv, we couldn't get a signal at the second apartment. After a 1 year lease, we moved again within the same apartment complex into a townhouse because I liked the layout and needed a change. Now, after 4 years at the townhouse we are moving closer to where both my husband and I work. We've found a place that is much cheaper rent and suitable to our needs. I think we just like to have a change once in a while since we can't do anything drastic to a place we don't own.

Is there a way to access DOGTV if you don't have cable? I have a Roku box. Apparently, the dogs don't even have to watch the tv to get the soothing effects. I think it's an interesting idea!

$140 for 2 iphones with unlimited data/texting (family plan thru AT&T), $55 for internet, $20 for tv (Netflix, Hulu Plus, Play-On) - Total $215.00. Used to be much more when we had cable television.

My husband and I combined our finances once we got engaged. Seemed easier to pay bills using all "our" money instead of splitting it up or having separate and joint accounts. Not saying this is the best option for everyone, it just works best for us. My husband has always made more than me, but it all goes into the same pot. We split chores by preference or skill (I am terrible at vacuuming and he can't cook). I do tend to do more of the chores because I'm a take-charge person and handle all scheduling (doctor's appointments, etc.) because I'm the organized one. When I start to feel overwhelmed, my husband will either take care of things when I'm not home, or tell me to put things off until he can help. He doesn't always notice the pile of dirty dishes in the sink, but if I mention that I'm too exhausted to clean up said dishes...they will be taken care of while I'm told to go to bed :).

My jack russell puppy started out with his own doggy bed, right beside our bed. He obediently laid down when my husband and I went to bed. After maybe 2 nights, we woke up in the morning with the puppy sleeping in our bed. He started creeping into bed with us after we fell asleep. Since this is my first dog, I wasn't sure how to break him of that habit w/o locking him out of the bedroom. So he started sleeping in our bed. He's full-grown now and 17 lbs. He only sleeps under the blankets in the winter. Our cat sometimes sleeps in the bed, depends on his mood. When he does, it's above the blankets and between my feet. I love having them, but my husband now wants to upgrade to a King-sized bed.

I've always heard the opposite on the dog/cat food issue. If a dog eats catfood, it can really mess up doggy's digestive system. But if a cat eats dogfood (just a little, not on a regular basis by any means!!), it's not a big deal. Agree with @mattster about not giving your dogs or cats people food.

I only do laundry for 2 people, we keep 2 laundry baskets in the closet - 1 for whites, 1 for colors. Delicates that require handwashing are cleaned immediately after use. We do laundry when the baskets start overflowing, usually every week to 10 days. Whites only make up 1 load (which includes our bath towels). Colors are 2 loads, one being pants only. I fold clothes while still warm from the dryer to prevent wrinkles (and to enjoy that fresh laundry smell). Tshirts, underthings, & socks are stored in dresser drawers. Workout clothes & PJs are stored in chest at the foot of the bed. Work tops & pants are hung. My clothes are separated by pants, then tops sorted by color. We use a separate closet for my husband's pants and our shoes. An extra load is ran when we wash bedclothes.

What if you do not have a landline, but you already have landline phones? Does anyone know of a product where I can answer my cell phone using my landline phones w/o paying for the landline?
