Different foods call for different means of packing. I usually pack sandwich lunches bento style in plastic rectangular containers and use silicone muffin cups to make separate sections inside as needed. For wet foods, I have a stash of stainless steel thermoses. Have a few mini-stacking tiffins - so cute - that were a great deal at an Asian supermarket. How Do You Pack Food For Traveling? I have a rug from madmats.com which I love. Ours is on a wood covered porch. It might not last as long on a rougher surface like concrete. They have traditional patterns and more contemporary styles. Maintenance is a breeze. we just hose it down and let it air dry if something gets spilled on it. Are All Polypropylene Rugs Suitable For Outdoors? Good Questions |

Yes. It's true, that is not up to code. A bathroom must have an operable window for ventilation or a fan. Talk to your landlord about getting one installed. It's a matter of public health and safety. Not to mention the fact that it will be better for the building too. Hopefully your landlord will remedy the situation without having to get the local authorities involved. The proportions of that entertainment room are so strange. I would put in a new wall to divide the room somewhere between the two windows. It could make a nice dressing room/closet for the corner bedroom. The remaining space could be just accessed from the back and become part of your outdoor entertaining space, especially if you have a patio or deck right outside those back doors. Or you could put in a new doorway from the other bedroom, so it would have additional space for closet/dressing or office as well. What To Do with \"Tacked-On\" Room? Good Questions |

I should add: I use a ratio of 1 part oats to 4 parts liquid. Could be just water, or half water half milk. The oatmeal turns out very smooth, so if you like it a bit chewy, this may not be the best method. The trick for steel cut oats overnight in the slow-cooker is to do a french bath. Sounds fancy, but it's really easy. Put the oats and cooking liquid in a glass or ceramic dish, and put that dish inside the slow cooker. Then fill the slow-cooker with water to approximately match the level of water in your dish. Cook on LOW for 8-9 hours. In the morning, I like to add a pinch of salt and I temper one or two eggs and mix that in. I use a litte of the "bath" water to soak raisins for a few minutes before mixing them in too. So easy. So good. I live in a 1910-era house in Michigan, my piano is on an exterior wall, and it's fine. I get my piano tuned every other year, it's a Story & Clark, so nothing overly precious. Now I wouldn't put a piano near a baseboard heater, radiator,or an egregiously drafty window, but I think that generally it shouldn't matter whether it's on an interior or exterior wall. Especially if you air condition in the summer, your home is a relatively controlled microcosm. That said, my piano tuner did recommend letting my piano acclimate to my house for 3 or 4 months before getting it tuned for the first time, and always get it tuned at the same time of year, whether it's every year, or every other year. xstal and Kate from 1500sqt sum up the issue pretty well I think. I'd only add that if you take them down, keep the grab bars in storage in case you or another owners ever want/need to reinstall them. Also document location they're currently mounted so you'll know where the blocking is in the wall if needed in the future. Can I Remove Bathroom Grab Bar in Condo? Good Questions |

Do you mean a hand-crank drill? They are great for kids, though I haven't seen an kid-size version. We got a Fiskars one for my son when he turned 9 year-old and it fits his hand, but it's big. It's very safe and we feel fine letting him go to town with it. Tell Us...the Best Gifts for Preschoolers? |

I think homebody is on the right track: Flip the rooms back. As it is, the flow from public to private is all messed up, and I think that's what makes it feel dormy. I would remove those sliding doors all together making a large opening and leave the swinging one closed all the time. How To Successfully Swap Bedroom and Living Room Functions? Good Questions |

Is that an exterior door in the bottom corner of your living room? If so, why not use that one instead, and move your computer desk up by your bookshelf. You have plenty of room near in that corner. Then I'd move the TV to the bottom corner where that circle is, and flip the L-shaped arrangement of the couches so that when you enter, you'd walk along the back side of one of them.
