kmorar, do you mean like this? This is an old store display I bought at an antique store several years ago. It's one of the things I'd grab if my house were burning down.

We bought several of these in various colors that I keep mixed in my bookshelves.

They also carry an over the door media shelving system that would be a nice option for the inside of a closet.

I love this book. Her Touch of Grace biscuits are the best I've ever had!

The hummingbirds loved my Lantana this year as well, it also attracted a lot of butterflies.

No tchotchkes equals no soul. Seriously, minimalism is nice for catalogs but not for living. People have said they feel like they're going to suffocate because of my "collection" and I say be my guest!

i feel your pain. we refinished the floors throughout our house after removing teal carpeting that the previous owners loved so much they glued it directly to the floor.
we used adhesive remover and after a lot of scraping and a few chemical burns we sanded, stained, and gave them a few coats of poly. it was a lot easier than i expected and the sander had a bag to collect the dust. the dust cleanup was pretty minimal. we were able to do the whole house for the price we were quoted for one room.

My house was built in 1950 so Atomic Ranch has been a great resource for me. I also love This Old House. It's hardly a design magazine but it's full of good information. Domino goes right into the recycle bin without being opened. Thankfully my subscription is almost up or I would have cancelled it.

That scratch really doesn't look so bad. Hardwood floors are going to have scratches. That's a fact I learned to live with after spending a week sanding and refinishing my floor, only to watch an 80 lb dog skid across it days after finishing it. Polyurethane can be tricky if you don't know whether they used oil based or water based originally. I found this product that will work with either:

Most polyurethane manufacturers will have tips on their website.

Heloise published this tip years ago. I've done it numerous times since and it's always been appreciated. I normally use a laundry basket instead of a bucket. You can fit more in it and everyone can use an extra laundry basket.

I love this house! You can't tell me this is any less "cozy" than the ZenKaya prefab house featured earlier today.

Paris is right. If one mirror has already fallen off, you should definitely ask your landlord if it's ok to remove the rest before someone does get hurt. Attaching anything to the mirrors may not be the best solution if the mirrors themselves are coming loose from the wall.

If you are considering subletting, I would keep the parquet. If part of it would need replacing down the line it would be a lot cheaper and easier to replace the smaller parquet pieces.

My bedroom windows are very old and drafty. I bought some thermal lined curtains a little over a month ago to help block the draft until I can afford to replace them. What I didn't consider is that they really block the light as well. I've been sleeping like a baby!

This is a fantastic book. The attention to detail is amazing!
Most of the items in the rooms had to be handmade by Mrs. Lee. I used to show it to friends when they'd come over but now I hide it.

So now our gardening pots should have a big brand name stamped on them and signed for authenticity? Give me a break.
