I stopped by Eli Phant earlier this summer and it was a wonderful surprise! They have such an awesome, eclectic mix of indie goods. Definitely worth a visit if you stop by Portland!

heela- Unfortunately, I don't know the paint color but it is a soft, buttery yellow. It's homey and warm albeit a bit traditional.

Thanks for all of the kind, generous comments! It's by no means perfect but we couldn't be happier in our space... and isn't that the point?

Zenezie: People normally compare our cat to a lion or somehow think he's not a domestic cat. Siberian husky puppy is a new one, and I like it! ; )

brooklynindiana: The tall stack of books to the side of our couch is actually a bookcase so pulling out books is not a problem at all. We do, however, have a stack of art books on the other side of the couch and it's tedious to go through. I think stacking only works for books you don't frequently use.

pdxgirl: Our cats weight 12 and 15 lbs and took to the modkat without any trouble. Darwin, the male, who's in the photos, pops his head out when using it. We find it kind of hilarious but he seems perfectly happy!

Thanks, everyone!

It's interesting to hear suggestions about the living room layout. We both work partly from home so office space is a must. One factor is the elfa desk/shelving which we need for storage. When we moved in we weren't looking to drill holes into the brick and didn't want the desk to block the view/pathway into the living room. But hearing all of the comments, we may consider alternative layouts...

As for the litterbox, it is in the area of the apartment where we spend the least amount of time. We are at our desks a lot.

And as for our art, I agree that more big pieces are the way to go. So far affordability has been a key factor in size.

Thanks, guys!

hunted: Our cat is a male Maine Coon named Darwin. We also have a female, Yoko, but she is camera-shy. They are wonderful companions!

Thanks for all the lovely comments. All in all we really lucked out with this apartment!

nycwife: Yes, the painting does say "You Let Him Die." Frankly we were more drawn to the painting's aesthetics than its political message. ; )

illegal danish: You're right we don't watch much TV. In fact Cameron watches zero TV. When I do on occasion I lie on the sofa which works OK.

CAjess323 : I believe you're referring to the litter box? We have a very large living room so making use of the space is more of a priority than keeping it 100% clutter free.

Mid-C Frank: I can see what you mean. I wouldn't necessarily say that my childhood household had "little sentimentality for stuff" but that it was common practice to take a critical eye to anything we weren't actually using.

AJC-
You mentioned an antique shop in Boston. If you don't mind sharing, I'd love to find out more. I'm currently in the market for a dining table and chairs...

The space is stunning- perhaps too much so to actually live in. Does anyone know where I can find a reasonable version of Lucite coffee tables shown?
