i have read in the bathtub for decades and only ever dunked 1 book. it was not a library book, thank goodness. i don't think it needs special tools or skills.

however, i love the kid's creative process. yay for problem solving.

While there is not a great and painless way to work on a laptop in bed, there are better laptop stands that can help. My household owns several if the iLap laptop stands from Rain Design. They keep the machine and your lap cool, which those cushioned laptop stands cannot do.

I've had mine for 8 or 9 years and it's still beautiful.

like JENNIFERS415 I have also sliced my finger open in an immersion blender. I still have serious nerve damage in the fingertip! It is a dangerous implement. (I still use mine, though. Can't resist. Must conquer fear!)

blue is the perfect color for this. most other options are either wood tones (which they were trying to get away from) or they clash with the plants' flowers and foliage.

I highly recommend Role Models by John Waters, read by the author. He is so good.

Also, Sarah Drew from Grey's Anatomy reads Delirium, which is a YAF novel by Lauren Oliver. I never would have guessed it, but she is amazing at reading audiobooks!

Pittsburgh or Detroit or any rust belt city, really. Also, most of the south. And really, I can think of several dozen "smaller cities" / "large towns" that are affordable and interesting. I don't think of Seattle as particularly affordable at all, so that made me chuckle. Portland is a little more affordable, but jobs aren't plentiful and that city has its own issues.

it would be quicker to make a list of places to avoid. you could make it happen in these places, but it's harder. san francisco, seattle and new york city come to mind, for example.

I like the idea of these houses. In that second-to-last photo (of the garden) it looks like they built a raised bed around a tree. That is so bad for the the tree, it makes me wonder what else about these houses is just green in theory.

I hate to be a pain, but I am really upset that so many AT posts are appearing in my RSS feed without photos since the site design. can you fix that? This post is an example. I am dependent on those photos so I can decide whether to read the whole post or not -- without the photos, I will never read AT posts. Thanks!

Wow. I am glad bees are getting so much attention. Maybe we can find a way to help them survive. But this design doesn't contribute to the future of bees. I'm amazed that Phillips spent money developing this!

1 -- bees build comb vertically, not diagonally. they use gravity to keep the honey in the cells.

2 -- if you smoke a beehive and then open it *inside your house* your house will be full of smoke and pissed off bees.

3 -- there's no way to add space to this hive, so you would have constant swarms (talk about happy neighbors!) and no room for honey storage.
