Sling style baby carriers work well, because some people will just think you have a broken arm.

I really need a video showing me how to eat an artichoke, please.

I freeze fish in a bag full of water - it seems to stay fresher that way...but maybe that's just an old wives' tale?

Whenever I desire something that is precious and comes with a price, I ask myself whether I could a) make it for less or b) find it second-hand. Usually I end up with great pieces, with unique stories, at an affordable price...even if it takes a bit longer.

Count calories. People say they're not all creatde equal, but really and truly, if it's about weight loss only - they are.

Find something active that you love that you can do daily for at least thirty minutes. Biking to and from work one summer increased my fitness so much that I eventually took up other activities and it kicked started my metabolism. I also felt less hungry.

What you eat is a huge component of weight loss and I don't discount it, but I also know I wouldn't have lost 80 pounds without the level of exercise that I was doing.

On tipping:

In Canada and the US, tipping is more compulsory and should be done with higher frequency because bartenders and people in the service industry don't get paid a living wage.

In most of Europe, the service is factored into the price of the item and one rounds up.
I believe it's the same in Australia and New Zealand, with service people making a very good wage (I've heard $15-20/hour, as opposed to $10/hour in Ontario, Canada).

My mother always used Cointreau in her chocolate trifle, which is basically a layer of chocolate cake sprinkled with Cointreau, a layer of mousse, then whipped cream and chocolate shavings, repeated.

On weekends, I like to relish lunch or brunch with friends and good, solid food. Monday to Friday, though, I want something simple and make-ahead, but I've found salads to be tiring on that front. I've started making freezer burritos, with a different meat and vegetable each week. They're easy to reheat and delicious.

My favourite breakfast, bar none, is the European spread of bread with cheese/meats/jams/etc. It's quick and allows you time to sit down. You don't have to eat the exact same thing, but the principle is the same, if that makes sense. For example, when I lived in Germany, my host father would eat a soft-boiled egg most mornings, but my host brother would not.

Other than that, I would also recommend oatmeal or warm scones as a sound middle ground for you both.

This place had me won over...and then I saw that the quotes were from Phil Jenkins and that completely made it for me. My MA thesis was on LeBreton Flats, the area about which Jenkins writes.

I successfully shorted my oven by cooking several batches of cookies and cakes, and then turning it off and then back on to 500F for a pizza.

Luckily, we moved from that apartment five days later.

The kitchen in our apartment was this colour, for the past three years. We moved out recently, but I have to say, there's something refreshing about all white walls and big windows, that our old place didn't have.

Hm. I've never had warm syrup. That's an odd idea to me.

That said, I also grew up eating peanut butter and lettuce sandwiches, and insist that my homefries be so hot that they cannot be reasonably consumed right away.

That kinda looks like if cotton candy and cheesy potatoes had a baby together. And I'm alright with that.

I think that this would be awesome! You could create savoury cookies as well (cheddar/thyme shortbreads; peanut butter bacon) and still have cocktails or other drinks that aren't milk based. I like milk just fine, but I don't know if I could drink only milk for an afternoon.
