Oh you have to choose "holdy-things" that work for you. My desk used to look the same way. I got a vertical file folder organizer that makes it easy to stash away stuff that piles up quickly. The key for me was buying organizers that don't allow me to pile stuff on top of them. If you are anything like me you will need LOTS of open style storage, I can't stand having to open a box or a drawer to put things away, right at my finger tips is the only way. Good luck, can't wait to see what you do! I posted a photo of my space on my blog if you want to take a peek to get ideas: http://www.mintedcondition.com/home-office

If it were my faux-fireplace I would use a sense of humor here. Add something that shouldn't go in a fireplace, like a ceramic animal from Jonathan Adler (http://www.jonathanadler.com/menagerie/)!

I've been a big fan of David Stark since I first read about him on AT. I went to West Elm yesterday to get some of the star garlands he designed for them. I was shocked that the people working there didn't know who he was. I figured if West Elm had him design a collection, they would have educated his employees about his previous work.

Great job on another fantastic party, David.

Also, these comments are hilarious!

Woo! I just used this wire system to put up a wall of curtains in my apartment, and it looks great. I love how it looks a little industrial/utilitarian. Thanks for the info, and yeah the guy at Lowe's didn't know what a T Buckle was, but he pointed me to the turnbuckles, which is what I needed. I love how a few dollars can get you the equipment to cover an entire wall with curtains. I can't imagine the nightmare it would have been for me to do a whole wall using curtain rods. Thanks apartment therapy!

They look like a duvet cover that IKEA used to make, I'm not sure if they still carry it though. You could check, then pull it apart and make your own curtains from it.

High Fructose Corn Syrup is also made from genetically modified corn. The health hazards of GM foods are heavily debated, however I don't personally feel comfortable eating GM food products. If you feel the same way, avoid HFCS.

Also, most of this GM corn comes from Monsanto Corporation which has shady ethical practices at best. For more information watch The Future of Food.

I bought one! It's the best place to hid bills and incoming mail. Plus, it's not too big so when you actually do decide to go through it, it's not overwhelming.

I found this giant, porcelain queen chess piece at Ross. It sits on my desk and peeks out from behind my computer, it is one of my favorite things in my house. I think it was $8. There is a Ross around the corner from my apartment, I go in there about once every two weeks to see what new they have because inventory moves fast there.

I know of a great laser cutting company in San Diego, it's a bit far for people in Los Angeles, but probably worth it. They love doing creative projects.

Friday nights?

We invite people over, and end up sitting around the table talking for hours or playing board games. It's so much more enjoyable than going to a bar, spending tons of money, and watching drunk people. Plus, you can actually hear what people are saying, instead of yelling over the bar music/noise.
