I think Xarcady who mentioned organizing our books by what we best remember is on to something. My book cases are color coordinated because I can tell you the cover image and typeface before the author or exact title.

I once worked for an art museum where the books to arranged by accession number (a chronological catalogue number assigned when it was added to the collection). That was a nightmare in terms of finding anything without looking an arbitrarily assigned number first.

As to the person who mentioned their writing degree, more than likely they did so as a contrast to some decorators who may view books for their aesthetic appeal before their content. She was probably trying to show an appreciations for books and their makeup.
