poor or not... less tv more books is always a good thing i reckon. and yes new books are rip-offs, but there's always super cheap secondhand books especially online... libraries.. and your friends' collections to swap.

and for the odd tv show or three ;) watch online.. no commercials so it kind of "saves" you time...! there's many ways to watch downloaded shows on the big screen as well (i have a USB port on my dvd player).

great item! and can totally see this being sold in mid-century furniture shops for hundreds of pounds/dollars by a rip-off merchant.

and note to people who say.. "i don't want to live here" or "i can't live here" - no one is asking you to, and no one really cares. they are so far removed from being constructive comments and as redundant as saying "i don't like glass" when stepping into the louvre. of course you're allowed to say it, but there are far more constructive/interesting and much less self-important alternatives in critiquing a place.

it's incredible... definitely one of the best house tours in AT.

and Brad, totally agree with this:
"firstly, to those who find it "cluttered." the fact that the place is over-the-top is what makes it work; for there to be less would look like trying for something that didn't get there."

going all the way is what separates the men from the boys.. and it really shows in the results... there have been so many house tours with watered down attempts to do what Michele has accomplished... and they are nice but so forgettable and uninspiring. it takes a decorator with guts to set themselves apart.

Can someone please tell me what type of fabric is that or a similar fabric would achieve the same look as the one in the photo?

Am looking to do some upholstery, and want to buy some very similar fabric. (in London or UK if they deliver!)

this place photographs so beautifully! but as a creature of bright space, I am inclined to think this may be a tad dark to live in.

tie something heavy around a rope (like a wrench) and swing the rope up into the tree until it is knocked loose.

not often in decorating do whites and beiges become colors unto themselves... but you've done it gorgeously and effectively, especially in your living room and bathroom!

i am not sure if its the lighting, or the pairing with dark toned woods and sparingly rustic furniture, but you live in a beautiful white haven.

how the dust must be trapped inside those tangled wires...!!

the dust in my house gravitates towards the underneath bit of leggy sideboards, this must be a nightmare to clean.

i just wanted to add, that maintaining simplicity and finding complimentary pieces aren't mutually exclusive.. i think you can do both. i am not encouraging you to buy lots of antique looking junk to fill up the flat, but to make use of the architecture a lot better, and that is entirely possible with simple pieces.
There is so much you could do to the place and it has the potential to be stunning and one of a kind... right now it is resting on its potential...

your wooden door frame is absolutely breath-taking!

but i have to say, sadly i feel you are working round it than working with it... it feels as if you are buying as simple as possible furniture to keep the attention on the original features instead of considering what would compliment it...

once you take away the woodwork, as in the photo of the bedroom, it looks like its from a totally different, much less inspiring, house tour.

sorry!!! i do love the space a great amount though.

i personally don't feel very comfortable in a house with a slanted roof! and i think it is bad feng shui as well (not that everyone cares)

its very sleek and stylish though this house.

great job. it looks perfectly done!

(even though i prefer the before fabric... but that's purely subjective... your craftsmanship is objectively good though!)

now this is an inspirational apartment deserving of an AT post... it looks lived in, full of quirky pieces and lovely ideas... and not too "glossy 'home and garden' unachievable" at the same time. (not that that shouldn't be on AT - but just carrying on a debate from a previous dc house call, that really wasn't much to look at, where people were saying some house tours were too overwhelming/expensive and unattainable in trying to justify mediocre flats being on this website..)

nice job :D

well, if you have that kind of money to THROW AWAY for a laundry basket... none of those functions wld really apply to you as you will most likely have a personal man servant who does your laundry for you every day... so you don't really benefit from the wheels (carry wha?), the split mesh (he sorts it out), ventilation (u can beat up your servant if he doesn't launder daily)...

and if you're not that rich and bought that basket - you really need some proper lessons on where to spend your money.
