Barlowgirl: So much depends on the size of the leeks and how much white/pale green you are able to use. The above amount came from 3 fat leeks which yielded about 4 cups of leek moons. They cooked down to about twice the amount you see above. DV Leek Confit: A Useful & Delicious Condiment |

From Wikipedia: "Discarded wooden pallets should not be used for fire wood or crafts unless it has been determined that the wood in these pallets has not been treated with wood preservatives, fungicides and/or pesticides. Various pyrethrins and propiconazole are common treatments for wooden pallets. In addition, imported palletized goods are routinely fumigated with highly toxic pesticides such as methyl bromide. During use, harmful materials or chemicals also may spill on the pallet wood and be absorbed. " DIY Dining Table Made from Wood Pallets ReadyMade | Apartment Therapy San Francisco |

I mostly remember her talking about feeding her daughter goat's-milk yogurt and a recipe for black cake. Oh, and her first dinner party in her very tiny NYC apartment. For some reason, these stories are always rolling around in my brain. Thanks for inspiring me to revisit one of her collections, Faith! I, too, am shocked at the omission of any of the Moosewood cookbooks. And I'm also a little shocked to see The Savory Way in a "vintage" article. Oy, am I that old? When I think of it further, however, I am even more impressed with Madison's culinary vision, for there are recipes in The Savory Way (and in VCE) that are still fresh and innovative today. And it was published (sigh) 18 years ago! Apartment Therapy The Kitchen | Blogging Saveur: Best Vintage Vegetarian Cookbooks |

Ah, but we're still left with what to do--not plastic, not corn, not paper Ok, I get that. But while I try to keep my packaging and throw-aways down, the truth is I'm still carrying out garbage two or three times a week. Given that, what oh what should it be in?
