Rucy I've used beadboard many times. It's a wonderful way to cover many unsightly areas, while adding character. In damp locations its a good idea to paint the back of the boards. This helps with contraction and expansion. If you are still worried about moisture, you can paint or stain it with an outdoor product. Keep in mind it has used for over 100 years on porches.
