Talk about a perfectly-timed post! I just finished hanging up a few framed photos of my grandma and grandpa, who are now both dead. My grandpa died a few years ago, and grandma followed last month. The photos are from 1947, three years before my mom was born. They're smiling and posing with their model airplane in a field. My grandpa worked with planes in the Navy, and had a work room at home that he devoted to building and displaying his model airplanes. Now I'm buying their home. I couldn't imagine a more welcoming, lovely space than the one my grandparents made together.
I also plan to memorialize my pets as they go, but haven't had the misfortune of losing one yet. I've had my oldest cat since my childhood, so I know it will be more devastating than I could prepare myself for. I'm hoping to do something with paw prints.

Has anyone attempted to get a postmortem paw impression or print before? It sounds creepy, but I'm just throwing it out there.

I know exactly how that before picture feels. It seems like the storage space in my apartment is really only good for pile-ups. I'm able to make it more manageable with dollar store bins, like she has. I love the cheap bins at the dollar store. They're small, easy to clean, and come in pretty colors. Good job! Keep working at it over time and you'll be more and more pleased with it as you do.

One of my first projects in my new apartment was to build a cat tree. My original cat was downsizing from living in a decent-sized house for 12 years, and I was adding another cat who is very energetic and needs to keep busy. So, of course, they have their own needs that should be considered when arranging a space or choosing furniture.

For the cat tree, I used part of a pallet for the base, then sandblasted some 3-6ft logs to use as the pillars, then made platforms out of the same pallet and covered them with fabric. I secured everything with a lot of screws, so it doesn't even wobble when they spring off of it.
It's not the most glorious thing I've ever laid eyes upon, but the cats love it, and It's just the right height for them to jump on top of the kitchen cupboards and hide out. The best part is that it cost me nothing besides the screws.

I guess I'm used to the feeling of projects coming to a screeching halt (sometimes for weeks) because I can't afford one of the supplies at the moment, or have to find time to load up the car and drive it all to a more suitable location (when some steps are too messy or noisy for my apartment). I look forward to this not being an issue someday.

I guessed the dress would be a tent, because I wouldn't know what else to do with so much material.
It looks way cuter than I imagined it would be. The stripes are great.
Also, on a somewhat related note: "Awesome Sauce & Asshattery" should be in the top 10 blog names of all time. That cracked me up!

I'm really surprised by the lack of consideration for the LL. I just assumed that it was understood that if someone is renting, they don't just make whatever changes they like without consulting the owner of the property.

You're paying to be allowed to stay there, and anything beyond that is negotiable. I always ask before making any changes bigger than hanging a picture. I've even gotten help finding the studs and mounting our TV because we asked before we did it. It pays to consider others before yourself. It really does!

Seeing the greys, whites and tans in the living room as well as the antlers and horns makes me think that, if you haven't already, you should try to get your hands on something related to pronghorns (http://www.oceanlight.com/stock-photo/antilocapra-americana-pronghorn-antelope-picture-19629-903791.jpg). They are fascinating and beautiful in person and in photographs.

Also, my favorite trinket out of the entire house tour: that little brass crab sitting on the magazine.

Your home is everything I want mine to be someday: light and airy, modern, personal, cozy, and full of animal artifacts and photos. Awesome!

I love gallery walls, but have held back on seriously attempting one because the pieces I want to use are a mix of organic and geometric shapes (ex, a small, round, wavy mirror and a rectangular framed picture). I've searched for tips on how to compose a gallery wall with a mix of such elements, but can't find much info. Does anyone have some input?

I find that right now, I keep wanting to purchase things that I think will make my home feel "finished." It doesn't take long for me to remember that my home will always be a work in progress (mess). And that's fine.
I don't always follow my own advice, but when I do, I feel so much better.

Someday, I'll be educated enough about wine to actually feel confident enough to have a wine party. Thanks for the inspiration!
I think I'd rather have a chalkboard on the wall behind the buffet and have colored place mats underneath the bottles and corresponding plates. That may eliminate the possibility of getting chalk on your sleeves.

My mom has these old Ballonoff tin canisters that are various sizes and are labeled flour, sugar, tea, and coffee. I loved them so much throughout my childhood, and my mom still uses them for their intended purpose.
There's also one that says "candy," and my mom always has a little stash somewhere...Generic winter holiday shopping: done.

"Contrived?" I was just thinking to myself that this is the first apartment therapy home tour that really spoke to me. I look at the pictures and feel like I actually understand why each piece is where it is. Yes, I'm sure there was a bit of staging before the big photo shoot, but if that is what makes them feel comfortable with guests (or alone) at home, let it be. Then again, I'm not a design student or a seasoned professional, just a college student in an apartment trying to feel things out.

Wow! I'm surprised that there are so many people who are convinced that something like a slightly pink neutral tile is enough to ruin a bathroom.

Of course it can be fixed. There is always a way to make things look better. It just depends on your flexibility, budget, and personal taste. There are tons of ways (some great ones already in the comments) to work with the tile. Just because someone else gave up too soon doesn't mean you have to.
I'm not allowed to paint any of the yellow walls in my apartment, so I have to play with lighting, pops of color, etc. to distract from it. It may seem like a total drag, but think of it more as a creative challenge-- that's the only way I haven't run out of steam yet!
In the end, I don't have a specific suggestion that wasn't mentioned already.. Good luck!

I'd submit my favorite thing if my apartment was actually presentable enough to have the Apartment Therapy video team set foot in it.
It's not terrible, but it's also not anywhere near video-worthy.

I (the girlfriend) usually take on projects on my own, but my boyfriend is helpful and often reminds me of the importance of multipurpose items. I bounce ideas off him and ask for his opinion; sometimes he will give it, if it matters enough to him. I like to surprise him by upgrading some of the things we already have to make them more functional. That's how I try to keep the feeling of balance between us-- he's hands-off on most projects, but I want him to feel like he's in our home, not just mine. So far, we've been doing fine.
