The 5- and 8-year old boys I baby-sit for every week *love* to use their 2nd floor chute to practice their baseball pitching (as in balling up their clothes, and sometimes the other pretends to be the catcher and "assists" the play).

Multiple pieces of clothing and pitches that are balls result in it becoming an activity in and of itself often, so it requires patience on the part of the adult. Very adorable, and great for two very energetic boys--and great for mom and dad too!

I'm obsessed with movie soundtracks, but to name a favorite, much harder: lately I've been revisiting the soundtracks of the Matrix movies.

Falling asleep? The Living Sea IMAX movie soundtrack, done by Sting. My roommate and I listened to it for 2 years in college every night.

I love Unplggd!

Don't mix ammonia and bleach, even by trying one and then the other--it makes toxic gas (aka mustard gas) and is very dangerous. Thoroughly clean with soap and water before trying the other if you decide to try the other. Just an FYI!

I know, it's bugging me too! It's not as obvious from most points in the room, and I didn't put the lamp in front of it to cover it up, it just works the best for the room balance and using it as a landing strip. I'd have to really think about putting the lamp in the middle and get used to it first...but I'll think about it.

But how much noise do you have to make for them to come on? Would they come on if there was noise coming from the other room, say the TV, or talking? That would unnecessarily wear the batteries out.

kdkaboom - Selling the parts on eBay would seem to be the way to go because, like we've discovered, there's very few out on the market in general.

I applaud them for trying, but I boo them for what ends up resulting. Domino is really taking the easy way out. Although I haven't seen March yet (must be stuck in mail forwarding), I have many of the same complaints - - occasional references to really great beauty products is ok, but not every issue. Like it was said, I can buy Lucky or pretty much any magazine out there for that. I read Domino for design and decor. Stay true to your true calling!

I have appreciated in the past when they've offered a range of prices on whatever they're talking about (the couches section sticks out in my mind). They seem to be getting away from that, and as someone on a small budget, it's eventually off-putting.

I also agree that the being green options offered thus far are pretty weak. Nothing to write home about, much less to talk about with friends or even contemplate doing. The "I buy carbon offsets so I can fly coast to coast every week because I choose to live in the middle of nowhere is annoying." Better than nothing, but still, come on, Domino--we know you can do better!

Tell us what green home products (cleaners, couches, rugs) are really worth buying/making an investment in. Research the companies and products for us, test the products like cleaners and don't just go with the Clorox line of green because it's new. What kind of social/environmental issues is the company addressing by doing things the way they do, not just jumping on the green bandwagon because it's selling?

That would differentiate a green issue from all the rest--and help reinforce our faith in Domino's ability to bring us the great goods.

I scored a lamp from the Global Bazaar, but couldn't wait longer than the first sale to get it. =)

jennifer -- totally agree about the turntable! I don't have any figures, but that $500 was a ton of money then (and still quite a bit today)! I saw in that same article that $2.75 for an appetizer at a restaurant was pretty expensive.

I had forgotten about renting your telephone from the telephone company until I saw this--talk about a cash cow for the telephone companies!
