very fun. love all the playfulness and cheery colors. i must also mention that i was really surprised to see that yellow mirror! my husband and i found a mirror just like that (except a faux bronze finish) about a month ago at salvation army and spray painted it yellow! We're enjoying ours and it's pretty crazy to see it in your lovely home too :)

Le_sacra, bepsf and others:

You mistakenly think that your snarky comments reveal the flaws of the home owner's style, but in fact they simply betray your own lack of taste.

And like the person in their car, stuck in traffic, picking away at their nose with a mistaken sense of anonymity, YOU are also "seen" in all your social retardation.

Unlike any design preference, that ugliness is truly cringe worthy.

I second Sophie's comment about Heather staying true to her own vision when it comes to designing her home. Heather and I were apartment mates right out of college and while her style has evolved since then and has certainly been inspired by her participation in current design conversations, the core of her aesthetic is still so distinctively "Heather." There's an integrity to the way she works...next week when wabi sabi trumps mid century modern in what is officially hip among interior fashionistas, it's good to know that there will be folks out there still joyfully crafting their own vision of beauty in their homes. BTW, Heather, I LOVE seeing that big beautiful painting of yours in your new space and that icy blue new version of your corner bookshelf.

judging from the comments, some folks obviously don't appreciate humor in the context of design. i do. i think the second and fourth image are the most fun and transformative and the designs that also hide the legs of the chair working best.

love the place and the perspective behind the design. i had the same stove in my last apartment and considered it a "feature." i smiled at the produce sticker ornament, too. the colors you chose are a good mix of peaceful, vibrant and unexpected. i appreciate that you put what money you have toward art...makes me want to minimize so i can afford to invest in more artists' work. thanks for sharing.

Ok, so i just have to revisit Brad's "unlike most women...misogynist prick" comment along with Jooley's questioning and Jesse lu's rebuttal. I was enchanted by the creativity of the space and aesthetic boldness of it's occupants, but have to say that when I read Brad's stereotype based comments, I was a little less impressed. It's a shame that he felt the need to berate a gender in order to (ironically) defend his wife and her brilliant design decisions. Jooley rightfully pointed this out and then Jesse lu, responded in similarly disrespectful fashion. I completely agree that this is not a forum created to distinguish between or compare misogyny and racism, but if either "beasts" creep into the conversation, decent people who respect women and people of color should acknowledge the ugliness of the statement, as Jooley did. And further more, Jesse Lu, as I understand it, forums involve conversation among many participants, so to proclaim the end of a topic by authoritatively stating "end of story" is to pridefully act as if yours is the only perspective that really matters (at shortsightedness which, btw, has been quite prevalent in manifestations of both misogyny and racism)

i think the wonderful thing about the paint color (80's mauve?) is that in conjunction with all the other hues, I am persuaded to like it, when had I seen it by itself, I would have doubted that as even a possibility. I love it when design choices can convince me to enjoy something i've hated my whole life.

I'd love to see pink in home decor that manages to not fit it's feminine stereotype. I'd really like to paint a wall or maybe room in my home pink, but I'd like it to feel bold and funky instead of pretty and sweet....I've been looking through old photos from my trip to India (pink is used all the time on the streets of Mumbia without feeling girlie to me...) to try to figure out how to do this. Maybe by mixing pink with darker colors instead of other pastels? Anyone have tips or photos to share?

Responding to Quark's comments: who's to say that the communication of judiciousness and sophistication was Christine's aesthetic desire? What if it was exuberance and joy? Furthermore are judiciousness and sophistication the highest qualities in design? If so, are cultures that inhabit the Carribean Islands or Mexico or India totally missing the mark (due to a palette that resembles Christine's?)

In art as in so many things, I say, diversity it a good thing.
