My biggies are proximity to my hobbies (mountain biking, skiing, hiking, climbing), scenery, culture, and being in a small town. I live in Aspen, Colorado, where I play outside daily, and enjoy amazing live music and arts. Everything is walking/biking distance, even the ski hill.

I second the Le Creuset Dutch Oven. I have the 7 1/4 quart round and it is wonderful for everything from soups to no knead bread to roasting. My other suggestion would be a quality chef's knife. A sharp knife is wonderful in my everyday cooking.

I use my Le Creuset from stovetop to oven all the time. I also use it to make no knead bread which requires pre-heating dry in a very hot oven. I have never had any problems with the ceramic cracking. For discoloration, I use a little bit of bar keepers friend mixed with water. It sounds like the Lodge ceramic is lower quality.

No artificial lighting and heavy covers help, but the ultimate is long division... I usually use the percent of pages read in my book, sometimes down many decimal points. @iriedesign we must be similar!

Wheat Thins dipped in or topped with peanut butter was a staple during my years of late night exam prep in college. Now I find much more enjoyment in crackers that are less sweet and better with cheese. Snack, cracker, who cares?

I do not "love" baby carrots, they loose their flavor and dry out because their natural skin is removed. Or they are packed in water. I agree with @breezyslp: why?

Get 1 good stainless fry pan and 1 stainless pot if you can afford it, then get a cast iron skillet ($20) and one nonstick. As others have said, add as you are able.
