Just purchased/received a cut-out bookshelf from West Elm. Loved the look, hated the price (cost over $500 with taxes/shipping). The piece was shipped well, very protected, and for good reason. Once you start assembling the thing (directions were very good), if you LOOK at it wrong it will damage the wood. I slipped and a shelf fell onto the side of the bookshelf - it made a HUGE HOLE in the wood! Which was obviously hollow! My husband and I were horrified. Granted the wood would have been scratched or dented with normal quality furniture - but a hole?!? This stuff is not worth the price. It looks great, but I am wary of the day we have to pack up and move to a new home, if ever - this bookshelf will probably be shredded in the process. We can't believe IKEA is sturdier than this crap.
