My husband and I recently moved across the country, and just moved again into what we hope to be our final apartment in the city (4 moves in 8 months, ouch!). The last move was the most efficient. Instead of packing a box a day, I packed an area a day. Whether it was the linen closet, or the spare bedroom closet or a dresser, I tried to pick one area that we typically did not use and packed it up. If there were a few items that we use frequently, I moved them into another area with things that would be packed later.

If you think about all of the items you have, half of them you will not have to use in the next few weeks. Are you really going to bake a cake? Can you get away with a slimmed down set of pots and pans, etc. Consolidating all of our items and clearing out various spaces felt less overwhelming and insured that everything made it into a box.
