This actually is just what happened to my husband and I about 2 weeks ago. I had lived in another house that I had basically gutted and rehabbed and I knew every square inch of it. Moving into our new house I had panics about if the water heater was supposed to sound like that, what DOES this light switch do? and where do I put everything. In the last house everything had a home, now all my possessions are relocating at the same time! I will say that it has been about two weeks, and while there are still some mysteries, we now feel totally at home in our new place. Try setting up just one room exactly the way you want it and that can be your sanctuary while the rest of the house is chaos.

MrFoof, where do you work? I need an office like that. ALL the chairs in our office are crappy/broken/really old with no padding. My back and neck are shot at the end of the day (and I am still in my 20s).

About a year and a half ago I got a white tulip end table (maybe Burke) in pristine condition for $25. The sellers were an older couple who knew what they had and had just downsized from the house they had for 40 years to a small condo and they didn't have room for it. I called on it right away and when I went to pick it up and it was obvious that they knew what they had (they had much more REALLY cool furniture!) I asked them why they didn't try to get more $$$ for it (I have seen these go for at least $100 on ebay before) and they said they wanted to sell it to someone who loved the piece and would take care of it and they weren't out to make a buck. Wish more people were like that! They were so cool I talked to them for over an hour about mid century furniture and the guy was an architect too! I even got a hug when I left...

Where did you find that wall clock??? I need one of those in RED! LOVE IT!

The retro quality and color scheme of this kitchen is similar to mine only I used aqua instead of blue.

I completely gutted and remodeled the kitchen in my 100 year old house about a year and a half ago and found an interesting collection of stuff in the wall. (a baby spoon, a leather cat collar, stickers, crumbled newspaper clippings (all type in german), 2 spent handgun shells, buttons, etc.) I told my neighbor about it (he likes history and has lived next door for over 20 years) and he said the shotgun shells didn't surprise him because the guy who used to own my house was a drug dealer back in the 70's! Now I wonder what I might find under the stairs to the second floor when I pull them out and replace them!

I call mine "the house with the pink door" because, well it is the only house in the whole neighborhood with a bright pink door. Everyone knows exactly which one it is when I tell them I live there. :)

spray the screen and windowsills with Hot Pepper Wax spray (available online and at garden centers http://www.hotpepperwax.com/Products/FAQ.html ) There is just enough wax in there that it won't wash off when it rains and it will make the squirrels get "hot feet" which will annoy them but not hurt them and they they will leave that area alone. I sprayed it on my plants that they were eating and the edges of my fence and I haven't seen much squirrel activity since!

Good luck!

I would much rather hear happy children noises and parties (with music at respectable levels) than the neighbors I had for the last two years.....They are FINALLY evicted! For two years I confronted them, complained to their landlord and finally had to resort to calling the cops when their loud drunken fights got to such a volume that I could hear them inside my house when I was at the other end of it with the radio on and all windows shut! They were fighting in between my house and their apartment building and my house shook as they threw people off of it! I am glad I don't have to listen to the CONSTANT fighting and cursing this summer.

My dog has always been told to stay off the furniture. He is simply too large and furry to be up there! Not to mention the dirty paws after he comes in from the yard!

The only exception is when he is sick (he had a nasty virus a while back) then and ONLY then is he allowed to sleep at the foot of the bed....I think it helps him feel better and it makes me feel better too!

Milwaukee, WI! You get the big city and the small town feeling, the lake, plenty of art museums, summer festivals, great food and that midwest friendly attitude! I lived in PA my whole life and never felt like I was welcome there, I have lived in Milwaukee for 3 years now, and I finally feel like I am home! Madison is great too-or anywhere in WI for that matter! :)

I agree, the availability is horrible. If there was going to be this much hype, then why not have enough product to back it up. I managed to get some tumblers, but couldn't even find much else...not to mention it was scattered though the store! Annoying, though I do love the patterns....

No wonder you could get a two year subscription for $7. They sent me the last issue free and it went directly to the recycle bin. I was a subscriber at one point, but they couldn't hold my interest, and I couldn't afford 90% of the stuff they listed in their magazine anyway.

I saw this coming.

I have one 70lb hairy beast that likes to destroy my rugs as well. I have tried all sorts of rugs and found that modular FLOR tiles are the best bet. I especially like the "Fedora" style because it is:

A) Not too expensive
B) Feels good under the feet
C) Is made from 80% recycled materials and can be recycled when you are done with it as well
D) the tiles make it easy to replace one section if my dog really stains it or chews it
C) all those doggy treat stains, dog stains in general and fur come off with a bit of resolve carpet cleaner and a vaccum

I have 3 rooms covered in FLOR's Fedora for over a year now and they look like new despite being lived on by my dog. :) Give it a try!

I just purchased the chrome version of this lamp, shown on the right side of the photo. It is really great. If you didn't have your heart set on the glass version, I highly recommend giving this lamp a try.

I keep my orange in the bedroom. It is like waking up and having a glass of orange juice before I even get to the kitchen! It might seem garish to some, but orange is warm, cozy, and relaxing to me...and my FAVORITE COLOR!
