I love my dad's collection of swizzle sticks, wih tons from airlines and casinos, plus famous restaurants like the Brown Derby. We have almost all the ones in that picture above. Collectibles: A History of the Swizzle Stick Los Angeles Times |

$1398 mortgage for 2100sf in Manassas, Virginia. I paid more per sf in rent closer in to DC but I don't have to commute anymore so I was able to get so much more out here! Survey: How Much Is Your Monthly Rent or Mortgage? |

Two years here in my first owned house. My last apartment, five-plus years (03-08), making it the place I lived in second-longest after my last family home (83-91). Lots of apartments in between, in college and after (91-03). I grew up moving every two years and continued it for years and I hate it! How Long Have You Lived In Your Current Home? Survey |

I have an uncommon name that was popular in my mother's generation. Everyone knows how to spell and pronounce it. It's pretty and ends with an N sound, which is very trendy. And yet I have never met an Elaine younger than me. What's up with that? Beyond Theo and Sloane: 100 Cool, Uncommon Baby Names |

I can't imagine any reason why a utility would need or have a right to a customer's social security number, why they'd require a physical card, or why anyone would give it to them. 5 Things To Do 2 Weeks Before You Move |

Everything is named, and for Joss Whedon characters. It started with a MacBook Pro called Willow and spread from there. I've used Giles for a printer, Spike and Drusilla for PCs, Angel and Angelus for the two partitions of a backup drive, Tara and Dawn for camera cards, Joss himself for the good camera, Xander and Lorne for iPods, Fred for my iDisk, River and Gunn for USB keys, Faith and Zoë and Wash for my wireless networks, Kaylee ("shiny!") for my iPhone, and most recently Book for my iPad. Proud of that one. Do You Give Your Gadgets & Gear Names? Reader Survey |

We moved all the time when I was a kid (phone company, not military). We finally stayed put in 1983 and even though I left for college in 1991, that was "home" until my parents retired in 1998. Reflections on Moving | Apartment Therapy DC |

I work with maps, and the way countries appear and disappear and get renamed fascinates me. I decided a few years back that I really, really want a globe from about 1930-38, before the war, around the time African countries started to become independent from the colonial powers. I was lucky a couple years ago and got a huge desktop on Freecycle that used to be part of a Herman Miller modular office setup. It's flat on one edge and curved into an L shape. I added Ikea legs to it and I have so much space. I love it. There's even enough room for a visitor: usually my cat, but sometimes another work-at-home friend shares it for a day. I'm also lucky that I have a bonus room in my house that's a dedicated office. The Long and Short of It: How Big is Your Desk? | Apartment Therapy Unplggd |

It was many years ago, so maybe they've improved, but number 3, Wonderworks in Orlando, was seriously one of the worst museums I've ever been to. Overpriced and boring and dumb. My family still sort of bitterly jokes about it. Upside Down Houses Flickr Finds | Apartment Therapy Chicago |

I don't want to cover my thermostat, function or no. I'm proud of it! I succesfully installed it myself (in two houses), and I like being reminded of that. Another Way to Hide A Thermostat | Apartment Therapy Boston |

I still love Keith Haring's work, and I'm in the market for a sizable piece of wall art, but I'm just not sure this isn't too little, too late. I would have pulled the trigger in a second a few years ago. Keith Haring Blik Wall Decals | Apartment Therapy Los Angeles |

Of Tumblr.com blogs with this topic, I find I prefer the stuff posted on f--kyeahbookshelves (fill in those blanks). It's similar, with some overlap/sharing, but if you're looking for fantasy bookshelves rather than stuff you might actually do someday, it's better. I just made a special trip to Office Depot and picked up two of these. They're marked $1.29 on the shelf but rang up at $0.91. Still a bargain. The iPad feels rock solid in them, no wobble or tipping at all. Great tip! The $0.69 iPad Stand | Apartment Therapy Unplggd |

Gorilla tape sticks great to itself, but the few times I've used it (mainly to repair tears in foam chair armrests), it wouldn't stick to the surface I was trying to repair. I had to wrap it all the way around and stick it to itself before it would really adhere. Maybe I just haven't been putting it to the right use, but I was really disappointed. I only bought it because fabric gaffer tape is so hard to find. Apartment Therapy Chicago | How Strong Is Gorilla Glue Duct Tape? |
