... (Silly iPhone... ) ... As I was saying ... "Only get what u pay for"... A moto my dad is living by, with an ugly lounge mind u. I do love a good vintage item (usually things i can sand or paint) but sitting in a lounge chair owned by who knows, done who knows what on it, doesn't make me feel comfortable... Even if it was a bargain. If u live to your means, you should be ok, but a brand or "quality" isn't worth going without essentials for ...

In reading thru everyone's comments, I find it really interesting - everyone has varied opinions as to what is the best/right/ethically/financial way to buy. I love home mags and real estate sites - they fill me with inspiration and ideas to do things with what we already have, ideas for what I like buy or make or redo.... On the other hand some of my closest friends and hubby can't read them etc because it makes them feel u comfortable, jealous or envious! Everyone has a difference view and opinion for what ever reason. As far as furniture goes... I'm one of those who think that furniture is a short term investment as styles change... My parents have an "investment lounge" which is now trashed, ugly and they can justify replacing it... Recovering will cost way more buing a reasonable new one! I have been bought up with "you only get what u

Beautiful! It reminds me of my husbands grandmas Front garden in England ... Stunning scattered tulips! It was very welcoming to come home to, and grandma of course!

We actually live in Australia and the eating machines here are possums... They eat anything! They will eat most things they can. Probably wrongfully I've been lobbing my vege end up into the bush behind our house, which doesn't help deter... Also, yes, we have the stereotype of wallabies (usually small, wild kangaroos) who come to visit also, who have had a sift thru the compost....

I have just planted some hydrangea plants and fear they are at the peril of the natives... Any possum savvy people out there know how to keep them away naturally? (At the moment I cover everything with nets..

I think u could definately work with it... Clearing it is one thing, but your not left with that much anyway! I'd get/make a island bench and stools with enough room to prepare on and eat at, - and you don't have your back to guests... ditch the dining table if there is one. It occurred to me a few years ago, no matter whose friends house we are at, we always seem to hang in the kitchen - May as well make it use of it - and any guests, put them to work on the other side of it. (After all, in a studio, it's not like you've got anywhere else to go?!!)

Love it! He looks like he actually has a lot of belongings, but you wouldn't know it! Might struggle a little for space if a couple was living there - but I think it would still be freer space wise than a studio because its such an intelligent design!

Ps... Lol - I think I miss read the "suggestions" - and assumed it was referring to ideas for the room pictured! No offence intended! I then looked thru the link and found the rest. Love the house and their style - it's beautiful...

Hi there, I think u have good bones to work with! I love looking at houses for sale and looking at what I'd change :-) having said that, I have found that finishing off my own house is much more difficult. Anyway, if your lounge room was mine, I'd paint the walls a light neutral white or soft gray; leave the lounge there, and the single chair (love both); ditch the coffee table completely, and use small side table/s; and clear everything but the tv from the entertainment unit, from the tv up, including the speakers (if possible). Leave the shelf and pics on the perpendicular wall (love that!) and accessorise with some strong coloured maybe patterned cushions. I'd possibly put some bunting or hang something with an intermittent object/colour across the wall behind above the tv. Hope that doesn't offend u - I'm pretty opinionated ;-). Our home is a work in progress, and I continually change my mind! I'm a white and gray base girl, with colours to accent. I'm eeked by wrongly located power/aerial points, thus also cords; struggle with putting anything on walls; and my biggest whinge is the soft yellow coloured aluminium window frames though out whole house.... But there are bigger problems in the world to worry about ;-)

It's a relief to hear that I'm not alone in the delayed coming together of my home! I'm distracted by things like dislike for the current old carpet, inherited expensive not to taste window furnishings.... Etc etc. But it takes time to collect the perfect pieces, ESP if the sources are eBay, vinnies (good will for Aussies)... And best of all, the council clean ups! I just have to remember that the homes/room I love in mags have been sorted by professionals who can look from the outside in! I wonder if they get stuck doing their own places ....

Embracing Patience: Slow Decorating

Hi Im actually really glad to see a green kitchen! Unlucky/lucky (depends which way you look at it...) we just bought a new house and the 18 year old is sage green. Apart from the gold knobs and the teal bench tops, I'm starting to think with a few modifications it could actually look really good. The layout of the kitchen is unreal, so there is no justification to change it (gallery style - one of the things that made me love the house, together with the timber floors). And we are in the process of painting the walls from "Cottage Cream" (aka soft yellow) to "Big White" (with a very slight grey tinge). You have given me the inspiration to just "tweak" it and give it a new lease on life!
