I lived in a not so good neighborhood and my roommate refused to lock the front door because he said that the world needed to be more trusting. the guy was a total, complete idiot. i moved out shortly after. that was the worst.

i had a roommate who would often have sex in her cheap, fragile ikea bed so i could hear the whole thing. it would wake me up. and she would call different people early in the morning and sob hysterically and yell after she broke up with her boyfriend but it went on for months. then she would fall asleep with the phone in her bedding, so i would have no phone to use. when i could finally get it out of her room, it would be dead and needing to be charged. she would also smoke in her room, right next to mine and it would come into my room.

these are just the worst of the problems. i won't even bring up all the little stuff. it's rough to live in a major city where it's nearly impossible to afford one's own place. now i live with my boyfriend and that is great, except our neighbors are even worse than the bad roommates i have had as far as noise and immaturity. i think i need to live in the country!

just for a little peek, not so much a glorious spread:
in marin county, terra linda is a neighborhood full of liquid amber trees...every house used to have one! now some of them are gone, but if you are driving around near the kaiser there are still a bunch in all different shades.

what about when your neighbors are obnoxiously noisy, not the neighborhood itself? i live in one of the most notoriously party-centric neighborhoods in the nation and it doesn't bother me at all (my apt is off the street and i am lucky enough to have parking); it's just my neighbors who are loud, slamming doors and pounding around all the time, yelling on their cell phones. they've even tried multiple times to come into my apt sometimes late at night drunk off of their asses, mistaking my apt for theirs, pulling and shaking the door!

it's hard to find housing in major cities these days and difficult to move on a dime. i don't think it is realistic to say that someone should move just because something is noise pollution. you can check out the 'hood every which way before you move in (and if you are sensitive to noise and move near an airport you're an idiot), but you can't allow for disturbances like disrespectful neighbors.
