Thanks, stationeryfiend! I contemplated putting up drapes from time to time, but just couldn't cover up the window frames, which I think provide a great architectural detail to the space.

Mine is from Parliament Interiors (www.parliamentinteriors.com) in the Gastown area of Vancouver. Call and speak to Craig or Colette – they're good friends of mine. I don't think that they carry it in store but can still order it.

Hmmm. I'll have to go look at the paint can. It's a Benjamin Moore colour, but I painted it so long ago!

West Elm has a beautiful fixture that would coordinate well, especially with your wooden chairs and the area rug. We have this over our dining room table. It casts a beautiful light. We get so many compliments on it:

I also used this one from West Elm over my old circular table (very similar to yours). It reminded me of a Serge Mouille ($$$$ – http://www.sergemouilleusa.com) fixture. You can articulate the lights in whatever way you want.

cb2 has a great option that might work. We bought one for our den space that's about the same size. It's called Lubi and is very versatile. May not leave you with room for a dresser, but it hasn't been an issue for us. It's easy to fold down and is quite comfortable as a single bed. My mum is coming out to Vancouver from Toronto tomorrow and will be sleeping on it. This is her third visit and she loves the bed!
