I think too many people fear color on the walls - it's only paint! I think the bright walls really showcase the unique pieces in the room, and I love the variety of textures, colors, and prints!

I haven't ordered rugs from Novica, but I have purchased a purse and was highly impressed with the service and quality. Also love that you know who made the piece - mine came with a card from the artisan.

I have a rug from Overstock in my living room - I wanted a rug that could handle a toddler and three dogs in a high-traffic part of the home. To get a 9x12 rug shipped to your home all for less than $250 is fantastic and a great choice until we have an older child and/or less pets.

I installed top-down/bottom-up shades in my bedroom - wanted to have the privacy but let in light and still see the treetops. I found them at JC Penney of all places for very cheap. Have had them for two years and no issues - they install only at the top of the window and work like regular shades/blinds with cords. This means you will have thin cords down the window when top-down, but it's not really visible and you can really adjust how you want the shades to be. Also, they are not opaque (I have white) so light comes in even when shades are drawn.

Wow lurso, are you 12? What a strange and immature response. Don't think we're "jealous" of the inventor, just wondering why she would think all these comments would improve her sales/reputation. I personally find this sort of support quite unappealing.

As for this rod, I recently remodeled my house and added a new bathroom where one did not exist and it's a bit of a strange shape. The door jam is FLUSH against the side of the tub, so if I have a shower curtain closed, it will get caught in the door. The concept of this rotating rod appeals to me because it would take a lot of the bulk of a curtain away from the door, but like others, I wonder how the curtain would hang and look when the rod is rotated.

Like others who read AT, I don't care just about convenience, but about style. If this looked like crap in my bathroom, $6 or $60 I would not purchase.

Like the rest, I find this post utterly ridiculous. I have bath towels that still work great after a decade. When they get frayed we switch them to the rag bin and use in place of paper towels for wiping dogs feet, cleaning, etc. I also agree about those who mentioned fabric softener - it will make towels less absorbent and I found once I stopped using it my textiles looked newer longer.

And cosmetic brushes, I have some high quality MAC and Trish McEvoy ones that are 15 years old and still great condition. I wash with a gentle shampoo, dry flat and there is no reason to ever toss them purely on purchase date.

I think it being a toddler size is pointless - a twin I may have gotten as that I currently have the Gulliver Crib and the rest of the room looks great with the Gulliver. Would be a nice step up after making the crib a toddler bed...

I ADORE the wallpapered risers. We have stairs in our small house and they have been red, French blue, and now white. It's surprising how much wear risers can get if you have a steep set of stairs. Our white was painted professionally less than 2 years ago and is starting to look worn. Wallpaper is something you could change every year or so and transform the look of the stairwell for small effort or time.

cmmarie, when I decoupaged part of my bathroom a couple years ago, I used Mod Podge (http://www.plaidonline.com/apMP.asp). Something like this works great for decoupage and so many other craft products. Hopefully you can find it or something similar in the UK!

We have a rocking chair in our daughter's nursery and I have used it since about 5 months for nursing. It's not really big or heavy - it's the same one my mom used with me.

My daughter is now 19 months and climbs up in it herself. I worried about her smashing her feet or hands and took two of those linkable plastic rings that you can buy at Babies R Us (toy) and put one around the front side of each of the rockers so it couldn't completely rock forward, but could still rock back (which rocks into a corner and not as easy to pinch and smash back there). It was a random thought using what was available and works quite well and is cheaper than a new chair.

I find the chair comfy for nursing an older baby or toddler, but awkward when she was small and I was new to nursing. I also invested in a nursing stool from Medela which gives me a better angle for nursing, especially since I am petite.

Totally not my style yet I loved it! And I also am a fan of the mantle/fireplace surround for the radiator. Fantastic!

I had my daughter at the beginning of January. We cloth diapered, so onesies weren't the best since she had a very fluffy bum as a newborn. What was great for us:

- 3-6 long-sleeved kimono-style wrap shirts (Carters makes some)
- 5-7 footed sleepers (if they have the foldovers for hands and hoods, all the better)
- We had a fleece swaddler, but preferred the hospital-issue swaddling blankets for the best baby burrito
- 3 little knit caps
- The Kiddopotamous infant carseat cover in sherpa. Unlike other types that willa ffect the safety of a carseat, this one fits on like a showercap and will make a snuggly warm spot for baby. We had a Snap n Go to make a stroller so it was great for walks, getting around, as well as being in the car.
- Socks. The only socks that worked for us were the ones by Trumpette. A dozen socks that will actually stay on

That's all we felt we really needed. Our baby spent most of the time swaddled to sleep or worn by us in a Moby Wrap so she didn't need a ton of clothing.

Each summer my mom, sister and I go to the beach together. Now that I have a daughter, she joins us. We got for a few nights and each night one of us has baby detail. Two of us get to stay out late, one stays in and watches baby. We choose a hotel room that is right across from the sun deck so the baby monitor reaches that far so that person can sit out there, or stay in the room. We can't afford a suite but this is a nice alternative and everyone gets at least one night out having fun.

You can take your placenta from a hospital if you put it on your birth plan and some require a release form. I had no problem taking mine in Maryland. And FYI, they put mine in one of those hospital-issue water pitchers and then that in a basin full of ice.

However, I agree with others that I find this incredibly wasteful and very Silence of the Lambs-like. I took mine home to be encapsulated, which I think really helped me with milk production and beating PPD, and loved that I never had to look at it in its original form. The encapsulation specialist made a tiny wreath of the umbilical cord and gave it to me in a silk pouch but for the life of me I don't know what the heck to do with it. Shadow box? Christmas ornament? People may find it grody I encapsulated but I even find it grody to decorate my home with human organs.

I love the idea of donating it to the police, a great idea if encapsulation or planting isn't your thing.

I used to travel on business a lot and I agree, this post is geared towards business travelers.

My list was an iPod and speakers so music would fill the space, room spray (more fire-safe than candles), a pashmina to use as a wrap and also was nice to cover the pillow and make it feel more homey. I do like a nice frame with pictures on the nightstand (have a leather one that folds up like a passport and takes up no space), I use my cell phone as my alarm. I also like to bring bubble bath so I can have a luxe bath in a tub bigger than my tiny home one so I can find some pleasure in business travel!

And lounge clothes or a thin jersey robe IS useful if you are traveling on business - takes up less space than a whole other outfit and after a day in a suit you want desperately to have a change of clothes.

Am I the only one who is wondering if this family has 6' tall toddlers? How does a child make a whole-board piece that ends up looking like a "work of art" as seen in this photo? The blog says their kids use a stepstool... doesn't seem like the safest or most practical of large art projects with kids...
