Kitchen Before & After: A Disorganized Kitchen Gets a Place for Everything Professional Kitchen Remodel

The rent/own category distinction is a great idea!

And, it would be nice to see cash prizes going to people who did a lot with a little money as you know they could really use it.

If AT needs to keep the prizes to a minimum, I'll bet the majority of readers would agree that the contest could limit apartments to 500 or 600sq ft, or less.

I hope AT takes in the constructive criticisms.

I don't understand how Garrett's could be a finalist when we basically only see one room of the apartment. I don't think we get a true sense of how the person lives in the space without seeing at least a bit of the kitchen.

does the square footage include the outdoor space? as others have commented on other contest entries, it's a bummer when we can't get a sense of the whole apartment. In this case, I'd have liked to have seen the galley kitchen that is mentioned in the description.

Secondhand furniture stores. Many are discerning about what they take in and will only be selling good quality pieces that you can use "as is" or easily fix up with minimal effort.

I'm not clear on what type of light is used inside. It doesn't seem to be mentioned above or on the linked site. Is it? I'm guessing it has to be a specific size and wattage so it's not too big or too hot?

Maybe it feels like too much fabric, or it's just that it costs twice the price, but I think the windows would look nicer if each window had a full set of curtains. I have roller shades with curtains and I think they look lovely. And, for what it's worth, my walls are grey (Benjamin Moore's Collingwood:http://www.benjaminmoore.com/en-us/paint-color/oc-28#ce_s=collingwood) and my shades and curtains are cream. My windows are recessed in the same way that yours are and I painted the recesses the same color as the wall--not that it's noticeable, since I have curtains flanking each window. They conceal the edges of each roller shade (and hardware) nicely.

The marble is gorgeous. I like Pi's idea. Here's what I found on wikipedia:

"[Frances H.] Kimball and Harry E. Donnell were the architects for the Brunswick Building, a 1906 Beaux-Arts building located on the site of the former Brunswick Hotel at 225 Fifth Avenue, on Madison Square Park (source: NYC Landmarks), now the Grand Madison."
