I feel very fortunate to live somewhere(small CA beach town)the bedbug epidemic has not hit(yet). My daughter just bought a platform bed, an antique wrought iron bed and a dresser on CL in DC. I was sure to warn her about the little buggers before she bought, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed!
The whole provenance debate reeks of class warfare to me. I love well-crafted pieces as much as the next design-conscious person, but it seems like the only reason to charge 7000 bucks for a side table is to reassure the obsessed-with-appearances wealthy that, yes, they really are different from us less monetarily blessed.
As demonstrated nearly daily on this site, people with more creativity than money are designing rings around the folks with more money than sense.
Just sayin'.

I have a vintage Kindel cane-back chair with faux bamboo frame(CL)I painted black. It was originally off-white. The lacquer black is gorgeous and really brings out the character. Great job on this pair!

My daughter and her family live on Capitol Hill(DC). Their first home was a 4 story rowhouse condo, w/them on the third floor. The guest room where I slept when visiting from CA was below the upstairs neighbors' elliptical/treadmill(?) At 630 or 7 every morning my room and bed would vibrate and pound for at least 45 minutes. You could not notice it outside this room, so my kids had no idea this went on. Not used to cramped city living, I was more than annoyed. My daughter, who is a master of diplomacy and persuasion, convinced them to change their workout time while Mom was in town. They now own a rowhouse and have renters in the English basement. They are respectful, but not hyper-aware of the noise they make. With a toddler now and one on the way, they definitely have the choice if the renters complain too much.

Great ideas! My daughter is due in August and her first(a girl)will be 2 then. She was waiting to see what sex was on the way, but I agree; good design does not pigeonhole you to a certain style/color.

@Tammy E, I'm with you on the paisley, girl! More bohemian, middle Eastern and Indian inspired textiles against the all-white backdrop of walls and upholstery. Add in the wabi sabi of rough, natural wood furniture and nature-inspired elements mixed with the luxe colors and textures...mmmmm!

Elisabeth, I'm fairly sure it's in the senecio family, but I can't be certain. Super easy to grow and multiply! They seem to prefer part shade even here on the California coast.

So happy to see live plants in a home tour. Maybe it's just a California thing, with our abundant sunshine, or the fact that as a former nursery manager, I cannot live without at least one(or five)plants in every room!
I enjoyed the whole energy of your place, Alex, and your obvious joie de vivre in design. I don't care for nitpicking this or that.
The TV would be fun with a big goldfish bowl(with fish)or a print of the old "off the air" design that used to come on after the Star Spangled Banner. You Boomers know what I'm talkin' 'bout!
