Couldn't find limes or miso at the supermarket tonight (must be living on the moon...), so I made it with a balsamic-walnut oil-dijon dressing. Really, really tasty. Added quinoa as the recipe suggested, and can't wait to eat it for lunches this week!

i need to have the tv on. i tried for 5 years to muscle through not having a tv in the bedroom, and i never adjusted to it and slept terribly the whole time. now that i have a tv again, i turn on some old reruns of roseanne or the golden girls with a sleep timer and i'm out. my father is the same way. we both also have the same heart condition, and if it's too quiet, i can hear my heart beat and it's super irritating. an old light comedy distracts me from the noise, but isn't involving to keep me awake. i always leave the timer on for an our, but i never make it to the second episode.

i also prefer a cool room with an extra blanket or duvet. and my frenchie, bea, cuddled up next to me, snoring away, always helps, too.

I find it very uncomfortable to look at pictures of myself or to have my picture taken, which is not uncommon. I decided that I'm going to take a quick picture of myself with my cell phone daily. Can be full body or just my head, but I know that forcing myself to take a picture and look at it will get me used to looking at myself and finding things about myself that I like or even, dare I say it, love. Mainly for my self esteem and self love. So far, so good.

my manager always gives us those li bien ornaments from pier one. i actually collect christmas ornaments, and they are all different and pretty on the tree. or you could always bring in cookies or some sort of treat. that's always appreciated at my office.

i agree with pi. i don't want to buy and store a new tree and ornaments every year. even if i buy after the season, i don't have anymore space to put everything and most of my ornaments are family pieces, so i won't throw them out or give them away. i also collect ornaments when i go on vacation, and love putting them on the tree and being reminded of my vacation.
the only one not going on my tree is one we got for our engagement, and now we are separated, so i left that one out of the decoration box when i moved out. even though many of my memories with my husband make me happy, i don't want to look at the tree and cry, which seems likely after a few glasses of wine. hahaha.

Holiday Decor: Traditional vs. Trendy

i have a similar problem with some reproductions of vintage travel posters. i wanted to frame them, but it was really expensive. so i decided to dry-mount them, which was much cheaper and looks better than thumb tacks.

How To Display Unusually Sized Poster? Good Questions

yes they are pretty, but no, it's not the same as a paper card. taking the time to write a note, address the envelope and mail a card means much more than sending an e-card. honestly, i'd rather not have a card at all than get an e-card. if you want to send a personal email to catch up, that would be lovely, but sending a picture that someone else took and typing your name and greeting into a web form is less than an effort than sending a facebook message.
either send an e-card or don't, but don't pretend it's the same as a real christmas card. it isn't that expensive if you buy your cards after the season for the following year. i'm also all over diy gifts, and that is what i mostly give. it really has nothing to do with money when it comes to e-cards, but about the effort of sending handwritten correspondance, imho.

We are only starting to have Black Friday Sales in Canada (Thanksgiving was in October), but the thought of going to the mall to fight the crowds makes me shudder. Forget it. I'd rather stay home and get a start on my decorating and holiday baking!

I'm one of those people who NEED a TV on to sleep well. I tried no electronics in the bedroom for four years, and I always had a hard time falling asleep. When I moved into my new condo, I installed a TV in the bedroom. I watch the Shopping Channel with the sleep timer on and I'm sound asleep in about 15 minutes. My father is the same way. We both have a heart condition (arrhythmia) and can hear our hearbeats in our ears at night, which is extremely irritating, so we both find the TV blocks it out and we sleep easier when it's turned on.
