Having lived and worked in DC, a quiet,serene decor and enviroment is very refreshing and renewing for the people who live there. Their guests probably love it too for that very reason.
I'd also like to add that these pictures probably reflect an evolving work in progress. People comment as if these photos are the finished and final look. Of course they're not...nor any other house tour.
