Does not make me think of eating, but the idea and composition is interesting and well done. I don't think the point is to make folks hungry, but to leave an impression, an endeavor that is successful, even if it leaves a bad taste of bad taste for some.

I don't know yet, but when we get our first 2 gallons of raw milk from our cow share, I will let you know. Store bought buttermilk is kinda ick, but I love kefir, yogurt, and other real fermented dairy, so I am pretty sure real buttermilk will fit in fine. Actually, I find that kefir is a good substitute for buttermilk, and contains less lactose (for the intolerant crowd).

The internets are my recipe book. But I don't usually follow them. I browse a few similar recipes and then make what I think sounds good. It may or may not lean towards one of the recipes. I do also keep some standard books for general reference (Joy of Cooking, More With Less), but do not subscribe to magazines. More and more I just throw something together, cooking by feel, which I guess comes from experience with recipes.

Sundays mean creative breakfasts while the kids put on the nicest clothes they can find to wear to church. It does not take long to get ready and we get up at about the same time everyday, so the schedule is more relaxed that on weekdays. Lunch after church with friends every week (our favorite part of church), and then a lazy afternoon of naps and food creation. Sometimes we finish weekend projects.

No, I would not buy a store-specific cookbook. Ever. I love T J's, and love much of what they sell, but I really can't stand recipes that call for any branded foods, no matter what I think of the brand.

Now, if it were a cookbook of the recipes used to create the fine products at T J's, that would be different and I would consider it.

I love foraging, and even roadside stuff if the traffic on the road is relatively low.

We harvest all sorts of weeds in our yard, and have collected almost 2 *gallons* of black raspberries so far this year. Mulberries are good too.

Dried apricots, figs and raisins, along with a variety of nuts. Currently brazil, almonds, cashews and peanuts.

I admit a weakness for peanut M&Ms, so it they happen to be available (free), I will be dipping into them too.

I think we called in "kalamungay", and the kids in the neighborhood would strip the trees in our area of leaves for their soup. Most likely Mama sent them out to collect. The plant is entirely useful and very nutritious.

Anything that requires special tools, and anything that combines eggs and onions. I will eat an omelet or quiche, but I will not make them, as I merely tolerate the taste for the sake of nutrition.

The greatest concern would be confusing water or poison hemlock for parsley. The leaves in the photo look like parsley to me, but I would recommend reading up on water/poison hemlock to make sure you know what not to try. Search terms to use: "fool's parsley", "water hemlock", "poison hemlock". A hint: if it kinda stinks when you bruise it, pull it out. Do your own research though, and if you still have nagging doubts, follow Tiamat_the_Red's advice and find someone who can positively identify it.

If that bit was not scary enough, poison/water hemlock are easily the most poisonous plants you are likely to find, and was the poison used on Socrates.

As long as food commodities are traded globally, there will be risk of such chain reactions. I applaud those countries that protect their food supply! At the same time, crop subsidies should only apply to food grown for local consumption (within our borders) if they are used at all. Subsidies on crops that are exported are dangerous as they create a co-dependency between the exporter and importer that destabilizes the markets.

This is our first year in our first house with our first garden. We have big plans: 200 square feet in raised beds is already in, with another 200 or so going in before mid May. That does not include the pumpkin/winter squash and melon mounds, or the berry patch. What am I doing on apartment therapy anyway?

Hell no. If my food needs processing I will do it myself, thank you. Eggs already have their own biodegradable packaging, why replace it with plastic?

What ever we get from our tree. Last year it was some grade A Medium Amber some Grade B. This year it all seems to be Grade A Fancy. Maybe it will darken up a bit at the end of the season. Still a few weeks left.

I like the stronger flavor myself.

We are deep into sugaring season now and have already harvested around 56 oz. of syrup from our maple in the front yard.

Ah, durian! I love the smell because I love the taste! I have not felt so strongly towards any other fruits. The only rival is cashew fruit. It brings back memories. Out here in the boonies we don't have many fresh fruits from Asia.

Now marang is another story. Can't stand that smell, or the taste.
