It's amazing the number of posters who honed in on someone throwing themselves a party when the story was really about a group of friends deciding to throw a brokenhearted friend a pick-me-up party and bring a few gifts.

While the former would be a bit over-the-top, the latter is just a nice thing to do for someone you care about.

Yes I would do this if I had a friend in need of it, and who would not be further upset by it but uplifted by such a gathering. Who wouldn't do that for a friend? Geeze.
