I was raised with the mentality that people food is people food, and animal food is animal food. (Save "human food" prepped specifically for the dogs.) No animal was to be fed from a human plate.

My in-laws constantly give their dogs (over the years) "tastes" of people food: from plain chicken to cookie nibbles. It has made me crazy because it's turned every dog they had into a relentless beggar. You can't have any type of food without the dog in your face, wanting a "taste." I think I'd be less annoyed by it if it was occasionally, but with them, every single piece of food that they've eaten has ended up being shared by the dog. I refuse to feed their dogs any of my food. Over the years, the dogs learned that I'm not someone they can beg food from.

It's a peeve of mine, clearly, and the SO and I haven't gotten any pets because of this divide in pet-parenting styles.

Love the gray penny tile, agree with the dislike of the brackets: they make the shelves look too heavy. And I'm sure this room will change over time, but I think the brackets will end up staying: John and Sherry drilled through the penny tile to put the brackets in, and I don't know if there's a way to fill/cover those holes if they decide to ditch the brackets.

I have several skulls (bear, wolf, badger, beaver, fox), lots of minerals (selenite, iron pyrite, copper ore, quartz, etc.), and some fossils in my collection. I love every "weird" curiosity I have in my collection, and love all the comments (positive, negative, neutral) I get on them!

I actually use a square of surgical tape over my ear-buds, anchored to the folds of my ears to keep them in. I usually get sweaty enough that the tape pulls away easily without taking my ear with it, but I've never had an earbud fall out with the tape on.

4. eBooks are positioned as disposable, but aren’t priced that way.

When I can buy a book on half.com for $3 that is still running on the Kindle for $9.99, it's not cost effective for me to buy the e-book.

I've decided that I will not buy an e-reader until there is a Netflix-like program for e-books. That, to me, is cost efficiency.

@CV11:30 - That's what was delightfully referred to as the "John Daly" ("like an Arnold Palmer, but an alcoholic") by a bartender in ATL.

I think the adult version is just swell. ;)

Food pyramid, food plate...it all means nothing if we're not educating people about nutrition in a separate program that is not influenced by food lobbyists!

@j808 I can totally help facilitate your addition of vinyl. I have Krappy Kat (actually pictured on one of their shelves), that I got as a gift that I've been dying to unload. If you're interested, let's get in touch.

I can't help but feel that posts like these are meant to not only increase buzz and page hits, but to also to continue to foster an irresponsible consumerism in readers.

Because no, I don't dream about owning my own personal scuba craft: I dream that one day I won't have to worry about not having enough money to pay the rent, the grocery bill and make my student loan payment in the same week.

My parents had one in their house for as long as I can remember. As kids, my mother used to yell at us not to sit on it, that it couldn't support our weight. Cut to 17 years later, and I caught her standing on it to reach something on the top shelf of her closet.... ;)

I'm always in charge of loading the dishwasher, actually, because of what my family conventionally calls my innate ability at "Dishwasher Tetris". I'm the only one who can get every single Thanksgiving plate, utensil, cooking dish, what-have-you into the dishwasher and have the whole thing come out clean.

If you're ever wandering through Ohio, go to their store. It's in the heart of Ohio Amish country, and it's really, really neat to walk through.

They have a cafeteria, too, that the local Mennonite women cook for, and holy crap - the food is amazing.

I cannot stand eating outside at restaurants for two reasons: wind and sun right in my eyes. It always seems to happen when I'm eating out for lunch, but never at a barbecue. So generally, I avoid eating outside if I can.

If you have a GFS in the area, I still recommend the 8, 16, and 32 oz deli containers. They just can't be beat: you can fill them, seal them, and stack them in the freezer. When you're ready to re-heat, you can nuke them a little, slide the contents into a pot/saucepan, and finish heating the rest of the way through.

@dwelement For the flocked slim hangers, the price is spot-on: cheaper than what I paid for similar from fixture-supply company. I would say that if you were going to get them, get them from B3 - great price.
