I think it's a lovely idea and since you're providing everything else I don't think it's unreasonable that they buy their own meals. A wonderful evening of friends and celebration.

We almost always use whole wheat pasta- De Lallo is made in Italy and is excellent as is the Organics brand from Safeway. Both are very reasonably priced, have a good tooth and are never gummy or "off".

Food & kitchenalia are my favourite souvenirs so the zip top bags are always a must and bubble wrap for über fragile items is helpful as well. I always make sure to pack a small corkscrew/bottle opener and a stopper as well.

This really struck a chord with me as we lost both of our dogs to terminal illness ( one suffered from hemangiosarcoma & the other with an inoperable heart tumour) in the span of 14 months. Losing pets is quite traumatic especially when they are your de facto kids. We've since adopted 2 rescue dogs who are a delight and I'm happy this couple has found a new canine family member!

Great home! One question- is the 3 prong metal object in front of the cutting board in photo 18 a roast holder? If so, who is the maker? Thanks'

Strange question but why are there price stickers on almost every bottle ? I've never seen that at any of the WF stores in CA. Is it a NY law?

If the kitchen cabinets are of good quality you could change doors, colours, hardware etc. If you're not familiar with Lee Valley, you should check them out; they're based in Ottawa and they sell ( among other wonderful items) gorgeous hardware made in Canada & the US. Great quality & fair prices with lots of period options. They also have a store in upstate NY & will ship from there. Beautiful home & I love Remington, too!

I'm with you. There is a hidden cost to all these " cheap" new things we buy. In 1970 Americans spent roughly 17% of their income on clothing purchases; in 2012 it was only 3%. Why the huge shift? Most apparel & shoes are made outside the US now, off shoring & out sourcing to developing nations have driven down the dollar amount we spend. But the costs are massive- US manufacturers are virtually extinct, the working conditions & slave wages paid abroad are horrifying and a lot of this clothing really is disposable; one or maybe two seasons and that's it. I have some great clothing items that were made in Canada & the US and they're good as new after many yrs.. One can find these types of items only with great difficulty these days. The home furnishings industry is quickly going down the same path- poor to mediocre goods made under horrible conditions abroad, only to end up trashed when they break or people tire of them. The 4 R's should apply to our purchases Reduce, Reuse,Recycle, Repurpose. It's about being a thoughtful consumer,IMHO.
