Hey, I didn't say anything about Ikea. But no one will ever know because my comment was bounced. You know what, AT? I'm outta here.

I got a showroom vibe, too. And I guess I missed the "sense of humor". It's just so cold and static, and lacking in personal items. Sort of like a furnished (luxury) rental. The fish tank is cool, though. It's hard to find we good looking fish tank.

Slatted seat with holes at the bend indicate that it was designed for a seat cushion. I would do a firm box cushion with corded edges (if you don't know an upholsterer, most fabric stores have custom cushion services) in a retro fabric along this line:

to echo the curve of the arms. I would do a detached cushion -- in the same fabric or the opposite colorway of that fabric -- with a knife edge for the back. Maybe do a large button in the center of it.

When you choose a white paint, the colors and style of your decor should play a part in your choice, as well as the light. Decorator White is about as neutral a white as you can get. It's the color of white cotton sheets, the color you often find on the walls of art galleries. It will take any color scheme, any style furnishings, and it does well in NYC light. It works as well on ceilings and trim as it does on walls. I have used Atrium White, which has a warm cast that calms down the white glare. It is a popular exterior-paint color for that reason (I was told the White House is painted Atrium White). It works well with greenish blues. I find Navajo White too "boring beige", and dreary. BM's Seashell, which has a slight yellow-orange undertone, is excellent in both north and south light (I have it in part of my home). It is warm and soft without looking pastel, and is clean and bright in all seasons and lights...including lamp light and overhead light. White Dove is quite creamy, so works well with traditional furniture and s beautiful in gloss for trim. I think China White looks dirty -- just my opinion.

It's so beautifully appointed, yet I get the vibe of the kind of decorator-run home decor and bedding shops I find in the affluent communities around my area. I expect everything to have price tags.

It's a variation on the CD-case photo/ art display. I think dust and spiders and such would collect in the (slightly gaping) open pockets.

I don't quite get this. Why would this work? Baking side absorbs odors, so I would think it would absorb the smell of the essential oil. You can place an open bowl of baking soda in a small room to absorb smells. A bowl of vinegar kills aggressively bad smells, like skunk. But in order for these materials to affect smells, you need surface exposure.

When I see ruffled curtains, I smell dust. Ruffled organdy window coverings were common in bedrooms when I was young. No,matter how good the housekeeping, they always carried a smell.

I've always like brown with pink. Was is Saks Fifth Avenue who once upon a time used that for packaging? (I miss some of the old department store bag and gift box design...Bonwit Teller, especially).

The danger in using dark brown is straying into poo brown. You have to avoid certain undertones.

There are some delicious color schemes featured here, but the number 2 (!) photo is, to my eye, many shades of beige. Not brown.

One small correction: a suzani is not a tapestry, but an embroidered textile. Tapestries are woven.

What caught my eye in that sweet house is the handsome pegged floor. It appears to be finished like a ship's floor, caulked with oakum. But perhaps my eyes deceive?

I'm laughing a little bit that you were in a house with no measuring implements for baking, but you had all those ingredients. Either you shop carefully before going to the vacation house, or there is a fabulous market nearby.

I wish I had a piece of that cake right now.
