I bought one of these last year and I love it. It makes picnic-ing soooo much nicer, and you still get to sit on the ground if you're into sharing with the ants. I think it's much easier to deal with beverages if you have a table. And maybe because I'm in San Francisco, I'm not so into eating off of what is usually cold ground.

I've used it at the beach (it's great because with the sand it stays level--and no sand blowing into your food!), and for camping as an "end table" between chairs sitting around the fire. It's easy to put together and super space-saving. I store it in my trunk along with the other chairs-in-a-bag.

the price is right too.

I think it's weird that the platform bed has taken over too, but the trend worked out well for me when I bought a bed and mattress recently. I was able to buy one of the McRoskey mattresses made for platform beds and only had to pay for the one piece instead of both mattress and box spring, which is great because I LOOOOOOVVE my mattress now.

I bought a platform bed at Room & Board which has slats. When McRoskey came to deliver the mattress, they said that the R&B bed wasn't made for their platform bed mattresses because of the slats. We ended up going out to Home Depot and having a sheet of melamine cut to fit into the well of the bed on top of the slats. So far it's been great.

Have you looked at Ethan Allen? I keep seeing things in the press about how they have some new "modern"/"urban" collections, and it looks nice from pics I've seen. They might have more of a blend of traditional features with the modern lines?

Recently came across Ron's website (don't want to skew the contest by linking to more pics of it) and realized I have tearsheets of his awesome San Francisco apartment from when it was featured in (I think) MetHome around 2000. It was always very inspirational for my own studio-living, and I like the NY apartment even more. It's interesting to see how he's used the same pieces and added new ones between the two homes.
