So pleased to see this home. Apartment therapy was starting to show so many similar places that it was starting to feel like everyone was somehow related. Lisa & Scott's Industrial Barbara Bestor Home in TopangaHouse Tour |

We rented our house to a woman who had 6, yes 6, dogs after putting in Pergo floors. She was super disciplined as were the dogs and I figured better that then someone with kids and a sketchy financial situation) anyway 2 years later they still looked perfectly new. Any places with real wood (other rooms, low window sills) showed the wear. Eventually she joined the circus with the dogs and we sold the house. The floors were as good looking as the day we put them in and were only washed ever with a weak solution of vinegar water. I'm sure today there are really much nicer looking and sounding floors - Not the clicking sounding one we had. I would STAY AWAY FROM WOOD with dogs in the future or you will be looking at refinishing when the memory of the price is still too fresh. Bamboo, Cork, or Wood Flooring for (Future) Dog Owners? Hi Nancy - Boy I envy your empty pallet. I would start with the rug as it could and should be the next most expensive thing in the room. A pattern or design would be good unless you like to vaccum often. Then you could pick out colors from it for the walls and for pillows, window treatments... With all that sunlight coming the room will look fantastic. If you don't go with too much dark /light variety the room will be calmer and seem larger. Consider hanging your plants ( at least the one on the left) Maybe build a shelf or get a cabinet for under the window and make it fit the whole window so the space flows. What fun for you to be making these choices. Good luck and let us see how it turns out. Adding Color To My Boring Living Room? Good Questions |

We moved to a old house in Germany 9 years ago which had wall done with this method but using 2 or three rollers using other colors which all interacted. Looked super cool. I imagined how they were done but never saw any materials for doing yourself. I think that professional painters must have done it in the 30s. There must have been some way of picking the paint up with the sponge roller (possibly in a tray?) as the pattern never got lighter all the way up and down a 10 foot wall. I look forward to seeing these making a comeback also with additional details for other colors. I get all sorts of overnight guests and have appreciated some actions on their part that I wouldn't even have thought of. My in laws would not get up until the kids were off to school leaving us to use bathrooms and rush around without having to work around them. (they are normally early risers) Super. Lots of guests help with the cooking and clean up, sometimes taking wash off the line or hanging it up - making my day so easy. A big wish I have for guests is to do some things on their own - take a walk into town, go for a bike ride, read in the garden. Not having down time or time for things like vaccuming is hard over a long stretch. 5 Tips for Being a Good Overnight Guest |

The room looks great but frankly I think any space would feel good to sit in while a husband (or anyone else) is cooking. Terri's "Funny Valentine" Room Room for Color Contest |
