I forgot about MK-12... awesome stuff. I used to watch their demo and samples repeatedly when i was in film school well over a decade ago.

we actually cancelled cable so the projector is only connected to a bluray player and computer. but what we tend to do during the day on the weekends is just put the blind down 3/4 so there's still some light in the room and then switch the projector from "dark room" to "brightest". it works well enough for casual viewing but contrast is low. If i were a tv watcher, i'd probably have a little tv set up for daytime viewing and then switch to the big guns at night. hope that helps. (the projector is a viewsonic pro8200 which i picked up for under $800, in case anyone is interested)

We opted for a projector. Portability was the main concern. I needed to get it home in the car and I didn't want it to break when we eventually move to a new apartment. We decided against an actual screen until we're more permanently established (again it's just something to break in a move) and have found that with a little colour tweaking, the wall works just fine. We sit 10ish feet back from the wall. Image size is roughly 130". An Ikea Tupplur Roller Blind blocks all light from the balcony double doors.

So ya, we couldn't be happier with it. I encourage anyone in an apartment to consider a projector instead of a panel display.

I have fond memories of my fisher-price hand-crank projector. Found a picture on Flickr http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5218/5536741938_72ff9792fc.jpg That thing was great. Stick in a cartridge, crank away and watch the movie on the little screen or flip the mirror and watch it on the wall.

I use the large version to wrap my dslr with 300mm lens attached. It works quite well when I want to just throw the camera in my backpack instead of a dedicated camera bag.

If you don't watch the commercials, you're saying that you like the show but don't think it should be funded. Unfunded shows die.
Watch the commericals. Buy the odd product. Enjoy your shows.

An exceptionally attractive transformation. I personally wouldn't be able to sit in that chair for 8 hours a day but beyond that, very well done.

Their logo/badge looks like someone in desperate need of a washroom... and I'm not entirely sure why people should be walking less. perhaps if it were marketed to aging genxers in the future, it might fly as a mobility device. whatever gets us one step closer to spock's rocket boots is good though.

The dual link HD-sdi is a rediculously fast connection for uncompressed HD... most likely it'd be used to screen digital dailies or edits.

I'll retract the inbreeding comment. Yes, it was based entirely on what religious fanatics have done with homeschooling... not teaching a more thorough and better way but "their" way. Again, just my opinion.
sorry internet :)

While all the tools look very fun, the room itself resembles a basement cell... maybe a window would help, or a fake lcd window if you don't want the kids getting distracted by the outdoors.
Additionally, I don't like the idea of homeschooling... it's like educational inbreeding. Just my opinion.

I'm almost certain that the drobopro is not a NAS. It has to be connected to a server, not just plugged into a hub/switch.
As a video editor, I think the unit is well worth the price. It can hold anything you throw at it (assuming you bought enough capacity) and is fast enough to allow for DV and HDV editing through firewire.... and it works better than any raid. So if you do any real work aren't just looking for a place to store your downloaded torrent files then go for it.
