I have a guilty confession. I'm a 29 night shift nurse working 2 jobs and I love coming home to a clean house in the morning after my housekeeper has Snow White'd my place up! Its like a fairy tale dream come true. I debate often if its worth the money, but I am so much less stressed and it makes me very happy!

Now for my prince charming...

one of my first memories is a food one. much like most of my life, a lot of memories and obsessions revolve around food!

my dad was is a commercial pilot and when we were little he would fly to England and bring back scones with clotted cream. I fell in LOVE. yum, I want some now!

Here at the hospital working a night shift and trying SO hard not to laugh out loud! "hand mixing" is one of my faves.

Being a nurse I felt remarkably stupid when I realized 3 years ago (age 26) that ribs are from RIBS. I was really grossed out by the thought! I think I still ate some though, yum ;)

duh.

I just made these and they ARE really good. I have a lot of "best" pancakes pinned and this might be my comparison one! I never have the patience to whip the egg whites, but this was super easy to just add the whites and they were super fluffy and delicious.

I think I would add a small 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract because I always love that flavor in my pancakes.

and then it would be quieter! I have the generic Cuisinart model and it is a bit noisy. BUT, I don't have that kind of room right now (or ever) in my freezer!

this makes me think we should have a "best family recipe" recipe swap!

we use potato roll dough for crescent rolls, sticky buns and cinnamon rolls. so moist and yum. also I have a few cookie recipes that would be fun to share. harder for those of use without a blog though...

omg CBISKIT that post freaked me out! i'm still shivering in horror. also, some of these stories are crazy! eek!

I'm not allergic to shellfish, but I had an adverse tummy reaction to eating scallops so even though I do have them occasionally they make me hesitant. I usually don't order them but if someone shares a bite or makes them, I'll eat a bit. There's more to the story but I will spare embarrassment here! ;)

potato rolls are my family's favorite go to dough! we use our potato dough recipe for sticky buns, cinnamon rolls and the famed thanksgiving rolls I have impressed multiple boyfriend's family's with at Thanksgiving over the years. I make them like crescent rolls and they are so yummy I have to have a few fresh out of the oven. they go fast!

whenever i make mashed potatoes I freeze some of the mash for some quick rolls whenever I want.

I actually did a high school microbiology experiment on how to sanitize sponges. (was in the top 4 of my state that year! all for sponges, woo!)

Number one way to sanitize: microwave with a bit of water - heat kills bacteria
2. bleach - denatures proteins in bacteria
3. dishwasher - only somewhat reduced bacteria
4. washing machine
conclusion: microwave (if you have one) with water and a bit of bleach :)

Store Your Sponges In The Dishwasher! Reader Tip

Oh man, I live in San Carlos of the bay area and yesterday it hit 91 degrees. I am such a wimp! but I have the added excuse to complain since a night shift nurse in SF so I have to try to sleep in an old house in that heat. Its pretty tough.

So my sink is full of dishes, and I definitely am avoiding turning on the oven, the clothes dryer or my hair dryer.

then I think about the humid summers I braved in NYC and I shouldn't be whining about this weather ;)

Oh man. I'm in San Carlos of the bay area and it hit 91 degrees. I'm such a weany! part of it is because I'm a night nurse in SF and have to sleep in that 91 degree weather. awful.

so my sink is full of dishes, i can't muster up energy to cook and definitely won't turn on the oven or desire to run the dryer whether for my clothes or for my hair.

then I think about the humid summers I braved during Nursing School in NYC. I'm such a wimp! I tend to drink a lot of cold fluids and just want simple, vegetarian dishes.

I have hand cramping from overuse syndrome (playing the viola) and I can't use them! so don't worry. But, this came as a problem when I couldn't eat Shabu, so my ex advised me to move the bowl closer to me, it sloshed onto my lap and I have 2nd degree burn scars (improving I hope?) on a large part of my thigh. sad!

Cook's Confession: I Can't Use Chopsticks

Liberte is SO delicious. worth the calories/fat because the sweetness is right on, the flavors are natural and yummy and the texture is great. not too tart, not too sweet. I like chobani OK, but fage and other yogurts are too tart, or too sweet, or too fakey. blech.

i didn't have it in washington state after I moved from NYC so if I went to visit I would make a special WF trip to stock my suitcase. no explosion :) now that i'm in the bay I have almost one a day. I was so excited when WF had it for 3/99c and 79c for a while. so good...

What Is Your Favorite Yogurt?

@liefie - you can't find fleur de sel in Seattle?? granted, its not of utmost importance and can be replaced, but even Williams Sonoma carries that...

@Meg1719 - so funny about Ina & Jeffrey. I will occasionally put on her show if I'm putzing around, but "I'm making this for Jeffrey..." and so on gets really nauseating. from the looks of it, you made it for yourself, stop blaming him ;)

Cooking Confessions: What Are Your Recipe Pet Peeves?

I'm a nurse and I work the night shift, so I sleep with natural light coming in. I rent and have decent wood blinds that are horizontal, but they don't block out the light. I use an eyemask pretty successfully (I found a good soft one at bed bath & beyond that curves around the eyes so you don't have to keep it too tight on your face), and take melatonin to help adjust. I was just thinking of rigging up some black out curtains from ikea! Just been lazy... :) good luck!

Suggestions To Keep Light Out?
Good Question

some commented on why this needed to be here, doesn't everyone know, is it april 1st, etc: I had a girl friend that dressed well, college educated, lived by herself, and we discovered that she never cleaned her toilet. we had to tell her how! so yes. this may be helpful to some.

did anyone comment on dumping a bucket of water quickly into the bowel to lower the water line? a trick my mom showed me when I was taught as a youngster, helps a lot.

also, I take my kitchen sponge after its near-used up, clean the toilet and throw it away.
