Dessert? We did not typically have desserts following meals. Except maybe fruit. There was pie for Thanksgiving & Christmas, cake & ice cream on birthdays, and ice cream for the 4th and other summer outings.

I like a cake or pastry with coffee, but am still not much of a desserts after dinner person. Never have room for it in the same sitting as a meal.

Tea makes a fantastic dye - gives your whites a sepia tone. Which reminds me... I have a coffee stained white t-shirt I need to tea-dye.

If you're in pickup distance of ranches, buying sides of meat directly from the rancher is an alternative. There are enough in my area that are an hour away or less that I could shop around by price, and got a little over 100 lbs for a little over $4/lb, after factoring in the abattoir & butcher fees (probably better than that as I accepted optional organ meats that we were not charged for).

We've had such a positive experience that we plan to buy a half or whole lamb, and my in-laws want to buy a quarter for themselves.

I like whole wheat pasta in some dishes, but my partner does not like the taste.

I picked up a High Fiber pasta from trader joe's and he *loves* that, so I switched. We get the fiber content we need, and the taste we like.

I have a plastic auto-off electric tea kettle that I bought for fairly cheap at Rite Aid or CVS. It's served me very well for years.

Among our group of friends, almost all gatherings involving more than having another couple over for dinner are potlucks. Between allergies, sensitivities, and preferences, it's too complicated to keep track of for several people.

Coming up with a theme & making 1 dish for a potluck is much less taxing on the hosts so in the end we have more gatherings with our friends, and we end up with more interesting meals.

I'd make hakusai tsukemono, use it in gyoza or egg roll filling, or stir fry.

I grew up eating rice, miso soup, grilled fish or leftover meat from dinner, steamed and pickled vegetables. In other words: the same kinds of food we ate at other meals.

Eat the food you like to eat, can prep in the mornings with the time you have, and makes you feel energized, even if doesn't seem "breakfasty."

No. I was the exact opposite of a picky eater, and always wanted what the adults were eating, no matter how unfamiliar or odd-looking it was (at two I snatched grilled sea snails off the hibachi. My mother was worried I'd burn my hands or my mouth).

My mother did serve omuraisu and fried rice in shapes (heart shaped, mickey mouse head shaped) and always tried to make packed lunches attractive.
