Hi Lora,
I think you're right-- this kitchen is nicely put together, but it is clearly more of a generic contemporary developer stye than modern. Here's what I would do:
-Lighten up the cabinets! Replace the doors with flat fronts if you can, but just painting everything white or a color that contrasts with the floors would be a drastic improvement.
-Have your granite countertops honed.
-A bigger modification, but would make the biggest difference... get rid of those daunting upper cabinets. They make the space feel claustrophobic, and who can reach the highest shelves, anyway? Consider keeping 1 row of upper cabinets (perhaps above the sink, where you put dishes) but get rid of that angled corner cabinet thing. Hang open shelving, or hooks, or other more unique forms of storage. Even taking the fronts off the cabinets and painting the backs a nice color would be a welcome change. your kitchen will feel WAY bigger, in addition to being more unique.
-Replacing the cabinet door hardware and pendants would be icing on the cake.
