I've been using "Casa de Wackos" a la Cheech and Chong's Nice Dreams.

I work from home two to three days a week. In the past, I've worked from home full time. One of the ways that I manage to keep focused and on task is to change things in my environment that are different from personal time. This lets my brain know it's time to get things done instead of just goof off on the internet.

The two changes that seem to do the trick for me most of the time are changing where I work and what background noise is present. I tend to do my personal computing from my living room. When I'm working, I sit at dining table. I tend to have the TV on when I'm doing personal computing. When I'm working, I put on music on instead.

If I find myself having a hard time sticking to the task at hand in the future, I'll make another change from the way I do things when I'm just sitting at home. Maybe I'll pick a certain cup and only drink from it during the work day and never when I'm not working.

Love this. Definitely going to do it myself as I've been wanting a big coloful rug for my living room without the accompanying big price tag.

@housetweaking would you say it's in the realm of possibility to paint different colored stripes with edges that meet? (ie. no white stripes separating the painted stripes) Or would paint bleed be too much of a problem?

To answer the headphones question, they are not optimal for producing music. They color the sound too much making it difficult to produce music that sounds good on various systems.

However, Melissapauline is correct. Music should be produced at a moderate volume. Tell your boyfriend to adjust his production techniques. Aside from saving his hearing, he just might produce better mixes.

I went through numerous space heaters that didn't get the job done until I got one similar to the comfortemp oil filled heater listed above. I've been using it for the last three winter with no problems. I often choose to it over my condo's heating system in San Diego's mild winters. When I take a tip from baseboard heaters and place it under a window to get a convection effect, it's able to comfortably warm up a 400 sq ft living area.

It may not be the best looking option on the table, but it certainly does what it's supposed to do.

I have a rule for myself that I must finish a project before I buy any new parts, materials, or tools for a future project. I enjoy the process of picking out and buying those things, so it 's way to trick my brain into completing my current project before I can "reward" myself by starting on the next project.
