Or fill your sink/bucket & throw in several rags. Wring them out really & attach them to a swiffer-like mop. Use one per room & switch them out--then you're NEVER mopping with dirty water. The best ones I have are from old sweatshirts, microfiber cloths, cloth diapers.

Awesome space & so many great ideas already! My 2 cents:

1) Remove trapezoid. Keep mantle & surround..or not.
2) Keep red paint--or repaint with any of the great suggestions above--but remove top 2 or 3 sets of shelves on each side of fireplace. Lower shelves for selected treasures (not books).
3) Hang framed panels of tapestry, wallpaper, or art on both sides of fireplace.
4) TV above fireplace, or mirror with a frame that mimics the ceiling features?
5) Maximize/improve bookshelves/storage on back brick wall and have it all there.

Good luck!

(Old-model) Roomba for laziness, fun, getting under cabinets, etc. Good on hardwoods.
(Old-model) Yellow Dyson is the BEST design, attachments, ease of use--but not great suction. Love that it's bagless.
Consumer-reports-recommended Kenmore w/HEPA bags--great suction, great on carpets, TOO heavy & cumbersome using the attachments.

A big, colorful basket with side handles could go on top of the fridge & hold your cereal, chips, bread, etc.--easy to take down & put up if you don't have cupboard storage for those. Have the basket match your chosen art & rug.

Mini grilled cheese sandwiches (just make regular ones & cut them into small squares or triangles)

Mini mac & cheese: there's a great recipe from Food & Wine mag. that uses a muffin pan for individual macs & cheese

Both of these could be made ahead & then just put on a cookie sheet & kept warm in a low oven

I just had one of these corn cookies last weekend! I'm in Portland, my sis won a Milk Bar dessert package at a school auction near Seattle the week prior; and it was AMAZING...even after at least 3 weeks in the package.

What about the buffalo chicken dip? Healthy w/celery & carrots, but some indulgence in the dip. The recipe is on the Franks Red Hot site, and you could use low-fat cheeses & dressing, lean chicken breast. Not the same thing but has the same flavors.

2 grilled turkeys: one perfect, last year's not so much (but I blame the digital thermometer, not the grill method).
