Besides making sure the kimono is kept out of all strong light--that includes spotlights!--you should make sure that no part of the cloth itself is touching wood (which is very acidic) or paint (which is also chemically damaging). If you're going to use a wood or metal rod, you should wrap it in tyvek, which is that plasticy-paper-like material used in FexEx and USPS mailing envelopes. Tyvek is an acid-free material, frequently used as a protective dustwraper/barrier in museum conservation. I realize that you're asking for temporary solutions, but if this is really an antique silk kimono, it is especially fragile and needs proper museum-quality storage, no extremes of heat or humidity, and very low light exposure (ideally none at all), if you want to pass it on to future generations. Growing up, I had no food allergies at all. Come my twenties and I discover the very hard way that I'm terribly allergic to mangos, as well as molds and yeasts, which means no bread, wine, beer, mold-ripened cheeses, soy sauce, vinegars, autolyzed yeast extract (which is an amazingly common additive), etc. Thank god I was never a big fan of Marmite. On the other hand, I do like myself a nice drink now and then, so in lieu of beer and wine, I've become quite fluent in gins. Apartment Therapy The Kitchn | Tell Us: Do You Have Food Allergies? |

I just discovered Ginger Golds at my local produce stand and have fallen in love. Super crispy and a lovely balance of sweet-tart--I've bought at least ten pounds in the last week alone. They make nice applesauce, too. Apartment Therapy The Kitchn | Survey: What's Your Favorite Eating Apple? |

Oh dear, I have absolutely no sense of any personality from the people who live there. In fact, it just looks like no one has moved in yet. Why so stark and unfriendly? Apartment Therapy New York | House Tour: London - A North London Sanctuary |

I'm also not liking the new look at all. It's so visually complicated and cluttered, my eye has nowhere to rest and actually absorb anything. Isn't this exactly the opposite of what AT promotes? And there's so little whitespace between the posts and the far-too-numerous advertisements, with those negligible grey line separators, that it's really hard to tell what's what. And the new blog names--kind of senseless, if you ask me. I'm pretty sad about this *improvement*. I know people worked really hard on this, but... Apartment Therapy New York | Welcome to AT 3.0! |

Oops--the original post was right--it was built for Sr., not Jr. And I stand by the rest. Apartment Therapy - NYT: Richard Neutra's Kaufmann House |

For those who might say this Neutra house doesn't reach the level of Fallingwater, let me just add that the client was Edgar J. Kaufmann, Jr., the son of the Edgar J. Kaufmann, Sr., who commissioned Wright to do Fallingwater. Among architects and architectural historians, this Neutra house is absolutely legendary and most of us are not at all surprised by the asking price. If I had that kind of money, I'd buy it in a split second. Apartment Therapy - NYT: Richard Neutra's Kaufmann House |

Actually, the "no curtains" thing is quintessentially Dutch, although I think it's becoming less common these days. My dad always told me that during WWII, people didn't want to raise any suspicions by keeping curtains closed, and then everyone just got used to the openness. I must admit, I don't have curtains here in NYC either (except for one strategic bedroom window). Apartment Therapy - AT Europe: Amsterdam - Danielle Erik's Canal-Front Flat |

Yes, those are definitely Atlas AS4 shelves. Truly gorgeous. I have them myself--worth every penny and then some. And I think I spied an Atlas bed in there, too. Small Cool Extra: Joseph's Cozy Brooklyn DIY |
