That's likely a Tulikivi soapstone stove, which FYI is very energy efficient and can likely heat this entire home.

As to those commenting that this is too big to have "green cred", if you study Bensonwood's site you'll learn that they build with a very energy efficient wall system, a design that has won Green Awards. Its likely that this house uses much less energy than smaller homes built to code. Look a little deeper.

Just a point of interest, the Greystone house is not entirely fiction. The interior is a near identical copy of an Arthur Erickson designed house on a similar inland bay. The original house was in fact used for the filming of the pilot episodes, and was re-created near verbatim for the series.

You can read more about it at the Mod House Media Watch blog:

If you want a more conventional cushioned pad chair the Freedom Chair is probably the most advanced example. The Steelcase Leap has a conventional seat pad, but the back is still unusual. I've got a good review of many contemporary chairs on my blog workalicious:

You know I love these hybrids Anthony, but I think for home a good arm chair and a Levenger Lap desk is a better solution. If the arms on your chair are wide enough, and at the right height the combo makes a very stable platform for home work - although you do need a low table or stool to put it on if you need to get up. The best thing is when you put it away you have a regular chair. More flexibility = good. Check it out:

Cool, but something strange is going on with the arms. If folded down as suggested in the images, they would not match the semicylindrical shape of the base end, yet that is what is shown. How does the horizontal portion of the arm suddenly curve?

You might try Tower Hobbies - they have dozens of 6cell battery packs for model cars and planes - looks to me like two of those could drop right into that battery holder. And if Tower's prices are too steep you can get similar packs from ebay vendors for much less.

ooo, an SE30 just like that was my first Mac.

However that keyboard is from an AppleIIGS (which was my first Apple). I always loved that keyboard because it was so slim and small.
