It reminds me of the drawings in Le Petit Prince by Saint-Exupéry and also of the work by Rie Cramer.

It's warm and very tactile. I'd love to be in one of those rooms and soak up the atmosphere.

It's difficult to tell from a photograph in what age this table was made. It could be 19th century or an early twentieth century imitation. I do understand the decision to paint this table, though.

I have bought a 1920-30's replica of a 19th century cupboard for €150 which is nice in its current state. The veneer pattern however is exactly what you'd expect on a replica: all over the place. I'm currently on the fence about painting it a minty grey/green.

@ Terin & johncb: I was just thinking the same thing! International shipping costs for the other prizes can't be that high. Please reconsider AT for the sake of your international followers.

Thanks Adrienne for sharing the upload link, and btw our canals do not stink. Thanks to an ingenious system, they are 'flushed' every day.

Yes- and when you've purchased your bike, make sure it's adjusted to your height. It's easy to do yourself by adjusting the saddle. Just make sure that, when sitting on the saddle, your toes can touch the ground. Not just the tips but all five of them. Next, adjust the steer to a comfortable height.

You could do something with light, like a strip of soft, warm led lights to highlight each step.
A grapic wall pattern can draw a visitor in. You could paint it along the hand rail to prevent you from seeing it when you're upstairs.

For me it's about space. Room #1 is big with high ceilings, room #2 feels small and cramped. The furniture and symmetry in room#2 do help to diminish that feeling (kudo's to the decorator!), but nevertheless, it's there. So for me room #1 would always be the first choice.

The glass table opens up the room. The wooden table is just ugly.
I'd recommend an oval shaped glass table.

Perhaps it helps of you can find out more about the history of the building and the people that owned it or lived in it? There might be clues there. There might have been an owner that was a big Mark Twain fan. Perhaps he installed the knobs. Or the architect was so proud of his design that he put his face on a doorknob?
